Hi, I'm also trying to learn more about my SMITH line. John SMITH and wife Jane BROWN married in Benholm in 1793. Their dau Mary b 1798 married into my Burnett line as well. I'd like to learn more about this family if anyone is working on it. Thank you, Lisa
Hi, I too have a SMITH family but I don't have a connection to Lisa's line. George SMITH possibly christened 31 Nov 1801 Fettercairn. Married Christina/Christian BURGESS 3 Jun 1825 Fettercairn Children: John, William, Isabella (died in infancy,) Elizabeth, Wilhemina, Mary Ann, David and George all born at Raw of Balmain, Fettercairn parish. In the 1841 census George, Christina, and most of the children were living at Raw. In 1857 Mary Ann married William VALENTINE of Luthermuir, Marykirk Parish. Mary Ann's place of residence is given as Laudsends in Fordoun Parish. (My great, great grandparents.) Does anyone know what happened to MaryAnn's siblings? Who did they marry? On Wednesday I am going to look at the 1851 census film for Fordoun and Fettercairn. This will be my second look as I was unprepared last time. My first census ever and the children must have all been in the workforce and some married. Their ages in 1851 range from 13 to 25. They were no longer at Raw of Balmain. I intend to record all the SMITH families in Fettercairn and Fordoun and then see if I can link them to my family. If you have Smiths in these parishes I would love to hear from you and am happy to do look ups for you as I have had so much help in the past. I also have 1861 census film for Laurencekirk in hope of finding William and Mary Ann there but don't know if I can do both in the one day.
