Hello Liz, Thankyou for your email. It was lovely to see something pop up like that. I think maybe Roberts wife Mary may have died before the 1851 census. I have found a Robert Thomson living in Laurencekirk in 1851 , who would have been around tdhe right age, and he certainly is the right profession but he is married to a person named ann. They had two other children one called Mary Ann and the other Margaret. Now I can find no marriage for this Robert Thomson or births for Mary ann or Margaret..............so I do not really know if it is our man. I do know when his son James (the man I follow) married in 1857 to Helen Watt he stated his mother was deceased, but not his father. I did not know he had a daughter called Elizabeth in 1832. I only knew a daughter called Jean Jack Thomson bapt 5 February 1832 in Laurencekirk. Is this the same person by another name???? Now haviang said all that, in the 1851 census I did not find an Elizabeth Thomson either. Now a Robert Thomson was a witness to Elizabeth when she marrid William Gall in 1858.well a Robert Thomson was witness to James Thomson in 1858 as well. Do you know who Robert Thomsons parents were ????? Maybe that might help, as the Robert I found in Laurencekirk says he was born in Fifeshire in Newburgh?????? Do you know anything else about the family at all????? I do know some. I look forward to hearing from you again.
