Good Afternoon, I am researching the family of James Thomson born in 1836 in Laurencekrik. He was the son of Robert Thomson and Mary Clark. James married Helen Watt in 1857 in Laurencekirk and had various children. William in 1859 in Fettercairn and George in 1868 in Garvock. I have the 1851 census in of Laurencekirk but I can not find James Thomson or his family Robert Thomson or Mary Clark. Yes I agree the parents may have been dead by then, but if anyone has any ideas, could they please let me know. I have found Helen Watt and her family in Fettercairn. Carolyn, I too am descended from Robert Thomson and Mary Clark through their daughter Elizabeth Thomson bc.1832 in Laurencekirk. I am afraid that I cannot answer your question as to where Robert Thomson/Mary Clark were in 1851 but at the time of Elizabeth's marriage to William Gall on January 15, 1858 in Laurencekirk one of the witnesses was a Robert Thomson - ? whether this was Elizabeth's father.
