Hello Bill Regarding your Low family, I also have a Martha Low who features on the death certificate of my ggg grandfather John Young who died aged 76 years on 3 Apr 1874. His father is listed on the certificate as John Young and his mother as Martha Low (my gggg grandmother) The family came from the Parish of Menmuir (adjacent to Edzell) To date I have not had time to do any research into the Low side, but I would be interested in any information you can give me as Martha was not a very common Christian Name and it may be that my Martha was a sister or cousin of your Martha born in 1795 at Edzell. I also have another Low connection that has a brief connection to Edzell. My ggg grandfather James Donaldson who was a soldier in the 73rd Regiment of Foot was married to Helen Lamont whose parents were (according to her death certificate) William Lamont and Helen Low, their daughter having born on 6 Sep 1809 at Blair Atholl, Perthshire. Now the interesting fact is that Helen and James's son Nathan was baptised at Edzell on 10 June 1829 while his father was on duty with his Regiment in Gibralter. I can find no evidence to suggest that James Donaldson had a connection with Edzell or indeed Angus, but perhaps the connection is through the Low side of the family and it would be interesting to find out if Helen Low was in some way related to such a family in this area of Angus. Do you have any information regarding a Helen Low marrying a William Lamont? Look forward to hearing from you. Alex. Gray Rutherglen, Scotland.
