Hi Grant, As you probably know there is a James Mather on the 1841 census in St Cyrus. He is probably the same one whose obituary appeared in the Montrose paper because he has both a wife (Jane) and a servant! Not our man I guess. There is also a James Mather in Edzell in 1841 working as an agric. labourer who seems to be on his own. Keep digging. Yours Jim
