I am planning a research trip to Scotland for maximum ten days in March/April. I am researching a book focusing on the mercantile activities and lives of ANDREW LOW, born 1779 to James Low and Catherine Croll. His parents are buried in the Caterline Kineff graveyard. James Low died in 1781 leaving a widow and eight children, they had been tenants farmers in Crawton. I am trying to find out what might have happened to the family since the children Andrew, James, Alexander and George, who all emigrated to Savannah, Georgia in the early 1800's were well educated. Catherine Croll was from the Fettercairn area. The other focus is on my great grandfather ANDREW LOW. born 1812. He was the older Andrew's nephew and probably the son of either Willia Low (1767) married Katherine Reid, they are buried in Brechin along with several of their children. he other possible father is JOHN LOW, born 1773, also the older Andrew's brother. That is the mystery because the birth information in the Savannah Archives is wrong. I have several possibilities and I believe from other clues that this John Low may have gone to Aberdeen. The only clue that comes direct from my great grandfather in Savannah is that he lists his birthplace as Kincardineshire in the 1850 census. I am seeking the help of an expert historian/genealogist who could help me unravel the threads and interperet the information I have. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you in advance.
