Afternoon all, I'm trying to find out more about my Officer line that most recently ends in the St. Quivox and Newton on Ayr regions of Ayrshire but haven't been too productive going past 1810. My ggg-grandmother was Margaret Officer. She was born in St. Quivox in 1810. She had a sister Agnes born in 1811 and according to records appear to have been christened together in March of 1811. They also had a brother John born 1813, but must've past away young as another brother John was born in 1818. Their parents were John Officer, a handloom weaver and pensioner, and Sarah Gladmond (also spelt Glandman, Gladman). I've never found any record of their marriage or births and wondered if perhaps they hailed from England or Ireland, but I'm also sending this to the Kincardine list as I know Officer is most commonly found there around Fetteresso and surrounding parishes. Is anyone else on the list researching Gladmond (or variants) and Officer? I've encountered one other person via these lists that is actually a relative but have never found anyone else researching it. My new found Officer relative also has no additional information on the family. Does anyone have access to the 1841 or earlier census for the St. Quivox or Newton on Ayr areas that might show these names and where they were born? I've tried searching for death records but haven't found anything as I assume both John and Sarah died before 1854. I've been deciding if I want to order the St. Quivox MI book online thinking it may show a headstone listing that may reveal more info. Margaret was living with her daughter, Sarah Graham (who mostly went by Sarah Officer on many records) from 1861 until her death in 1873. On most records for her (she apparently had applied for poor relief at one point but I have not requested those yet) she also went by Margaret Officer so I think that either she and John divorced or he died early in their marriage. I do know that on her death cert it lists her as Margaret Graham but on the 1861 and 1871 census she is listed as Officer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Take care. Hello Gregor, I am sorry this is so late in responding, but as is sometimes the case, we dont see things until later because we just havent got there, if you see what I mean. I'm one of those listers who save hundreds of e-mails and, at a time like this, have a "clear out". Not sure who your "new found" OFFICER connection is and whether you have made progress in the meantime. I am now mailing to say I have recently found an OFFICER connection into my maternal line of DUN/DUNN of Montrose. Robert Troup Mudie OFFICER married Susan DUN/DUNN. I also have strong connections in Kincardineshire, spilling over from Angus. I will look into the names yo have set out in your mail and get back to you as soon as I have anything on it. Your Gt Gt Gt Grandmother would have been born about the same time as Robert T.M. OFFICER's father. His mother's maiden surname was SCOTT. I have quite a bit on the OFFICER folk.
