    3. Hi, My great-grandmother was ISOBEL GAVIN born 8 Jan 1854 at LAURENCEKIRK. She was orphaned when she was around 8 years old and went to join extended family members in South Africa. She married there (twice) and died there on Nov 10 1940. Things I know about the family: Her siblings (all born in Laurencekirk) were: Margaret 1844, married Andrew Edward, died in South Africa. Alexander 1845. May have gone to South Africa James 1847 May have gone to South Africa brother born/died 1849 Elizabeth Ley 1850. Went to South Africa, married and thought to have died there. Annie Agnes 1856. Ditto Catherine Innes 1859 Ditto. Parents: ROBERT GAVIN and ISOBELLA/ISOBEL WILLIAMSON Married 22 July 1843 at Laurencekirk. Probably died around 1861/62. Can anyone help with this? ROBERT GAVIN was christened 7 May 1815 at Fordoun. His parents were ALEXANDER GAVIN and CATHERINE DAVIDSON and their "place of residence" is Whiteriggs. They married June 12 1814 at Fordoun. ROBERT'S siblings were: Alexander 1817, Jane 1819, John 1821, David 1823, Margaret 1825 and James 1831. A John Gavin established a foundry in Natal in 1860 and a David Gavin was the guardian of Isobel according to her license to marry issued in 1874 (this was her first marriage) in South Africa. ISOBELLA/ISOBEL WILLIAMSON - help needed here. The marriage entry for Isobella in the Brechin parish states that her place of residence was "Cadger Wynd". No birth entry has been found for her there, but a boy was born at "Cadger Wynd" on 6th March 1823 to an ALEXANDER WILLIAMSON and HELEN NEISH. Alexander was a weaver. Does anyone know if these could be Isobella's parents or if they are some other relative like an aunt and uncle. A search of the IGIs turned up an Isobella Williamson with different parents, so I am seeking the right one. Thank you in advance for any help. Rosemary Tearle, Northland, New Zealand.
