    3. Hi: If I may jump in. Robert Burns was born in Ayrshire not Kincardineshire. However, his father William was from Glenbervie and moved south and married there. The Burness family as it was spelled in Kincardinshire have been documented ther as far back as 1690. Also possibly, The Perthshire ancestor may have been born there at a placed that started with Dun.... and sounded like Dunottar to the cencsus taker. It would bee worth checking out. 3. Aye your right Ron, Burns's forefathers had some association with the Mearns but I'm sorry to say there is never been a serious suggestion he was born any where near Kincardineshire. There was in the 1950's - and may still be -a Burns Fatherland Club in Stonehaven. Perhaps I remember because I'm the proud owner of a book which was given to me, at the age of 12 years as a prize from the club for an essay on Burns. Never hit that dizzy heights of literary acclaim again though!! However I'm no authority on Burns , I'm not too bad at mediaeval history. One thing I have learned - check my sources before I write and if I can't prove it, leave it alone, there is enough misinformation with out my adding to it. I'm sorry to say Kincardineshire as such no longer officially exists having been swallowed by its northern neighbour in a governmental reshuffle. rgds John, an auld Stoney Loon. -------Original Message------- From: Ron Dempsey Date: 12 March 2002 12:17:31 To: [email protected] Subject: [SCT-KINCARDINE] RE: SCT-KINCARDINE-D Digest V02 #34 Hi: If I may jump in.
