Hi All, I have traced my family back to the Laurencekirk and Brechin areas. As i go further back in the family the name changes from Lowe to low. It seems to have changed when a certificate was signed with an E at the end( by mistake i don't know) The names I have are Gordon Barclay Lowe b1884 married Ann Cairns in 1921 in Glasgow, Gordon had brothers/sisters Mary,ramsay,george.(all born in Brechin) But I don't know anything about them John Low b1861 married Mary isabella whyte barclay in brechin 1885 (the above are their children) I am stuck on finding the above John Low's father. I know John low was born in Laurencekirk under the name John Laurie with the father named as John Low,but it states "disputed father" on the certificate". His mothers name Was Georgina Laurie/Lawrie but unfortunately they did not marry so you can see how my problem arises (no info except the fathers name) The son John got married as John Low so i also don't understand why he changed his name from Laurie to low as on the birth certificate. I know that John Low's mother Georgina had several other children Two of which were witnesses on John /Mary's marriage certificate. She also stayed next door to John/Mary in Brechin so I know they stayed in touch. I don't pick up traces of the father anywhere. Georgina also got Married to a william Stewart but she didn't change her maiden name on the census.
