My gggrandfather is Alex. and the record of his birth is nowhere to be found either. I have his birth year from death records. I would think this is what happened with David as well. Also Ann's name is posing some confusion as she is listed as Susan in 1881 census and marriage records, married name Petrie. I don't know the reason of the different name. Hope this helps - let me know.PG

Surnames: Jarvis Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AgC.2ACI/1249.1 Message Board Post: Dear Allison, I read your query with great interest. My Jarvis family lived in Marykirk around the time you mention. I am researching a Herbert M.E. Jarvis who, in the 1881 census of Scotland is recorded as living with his Grandmother, Elizabeth Jarvis and his aunt, also Elizabeth Jarvis in Marykirk He is recorded as having been born in London, Middlesex and at census was aged 12 years. He is listed with two brothers and one sister. They are Charles S. Jarvis, Frank S. Jarvis and Maggie E. Jarvis. Herbert is the eldest. I have the PRO index and entry numbers to retreive his birth certificate but haven't yet done so. There were two davids born to Elizabeth. One was born in 1837 and another born in 1840. I have no idea who the father is but strongly suspect that it wold be David. If any of this rings a bell, call me.

    3. Hello Bev Strachan is a village and is to be found in the Parish of that name. The village is about 5 miles south of Banchory, if you go to www.ukvillages.co.uk/ukvillages.nsf/ villages/Scotland/Strachan-Kincardineshire you will be able to bring up a map of the area, plus old photographs and the present day community web page. Best of luck with your research. Alex. Gray Rutherglen Scotland.
