Hi Ken, I have family from Kincardine is this index you have online or is this something that takes you much typing to respond to queries? I am particularlly interested in Gerard as Alexander Gerard and Janet Irvine buried in Fetteresso are top of that line. John Gerard is the father and I found their grave in Fetteresso and the grave for Alexander Gerard and Isabel Lindsay where Alexander was born in 1738 (possibly a brother or of the same family as my John Gerard b abt 1733) Gordon McLeod Calgary, Alberta descenant of these Kincardine families Burness (share same ancestors as Robbie Burns (or Burness)), Mollison, Gerard, Murray, Scot(t) Fetteresso, Fordoun, Glenbervie, Marykirk, Arbuthnott -----Original Message----- From: Ken Coull [mailto:kcoull@shaw.ca] Sent: Saturday, September 11, 2004 10:12 AM To: SCT-KINCARDINE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SCT-KINCARDINE] MAT(T)HEWSON MIs Pre-1855 Kincardineshire Hi Rosemary, Although I can't help with your Census queries, I do have a copy of "Pre-1855 Gravestone Inscriptions: An Index for Kincardineshire (The Mearns)" edited by Alison Mitchell, 1986. You can now access records of World War Two Medals claimed and issued to over 100,000 Merchant Seamen, from 1946 to 2002. Each entry gives details of the seaman's name, discharge book number and the medals, ribbons and clasps issued to him, and some entries also list date and place of birth. http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk/whats-new.asp
Hello Listers This is my first venture into your part of Scotland so please forgive my ignorance. Please does SKS have the 1861 census of Laurencekirk & would be willing to look for a William MATHEWSON? At Scottishdocuments.com Index Index of Wills I have found a Mathewson William, 25/7/1865, Assistant Factor, "residing in Laurencekirk", Stonehaven Sheriff Court. Can anyone tell me how many large Estates employing 'Factors' would be in the Laurencekirk area? Also, if there is one, would SKS please check for him on the 1851 census index? Genuki tells me that pre-1855 Gravestones at Laurencekirk have been Indexed. Does SKS have this index & would check for any MAT[T]HEWSONs please? Is there any index of later burials, specifically 1865? Many thanks Rosemary in Western Australia
Hi Ruth: I have no relationship to this family. However, I can pass on something that happened on my research. As you know death cert. info is only as good as it's informant. Which can be a relative who never knew the grandparents or a son in law who is reporting hearsay. In my research I obtained the death certificates for two brothers, one gave the mother's name as Agnes Mcrobert and the other said Agnes Crawford. My first thought was that the father married twice. After searching it turned that Agnes Mcrobert was the mother and that Agnes Crawford was the grandmother of the deceased. One of the informant got his grandmother and great grand mother names' confused. Something to keep in mind. >----- Forwarded Message ----- >From: "Ruth Edwards" <bredwards@datafast.net.au> >To: SCT-KINCARDINE-L <SCT-KINCARDINE-L@rootsweb.com> >Subject: James Beattie > >Hello Listers, >would anyone have a James Beattie and an Isobel Ritchie in their tree. >On my G G Grandmother's death certificate, in 1870 in Benholm it states >_Julia Strachan age 59 m/s Beattie, Father James Beattie, mother Isobel >Ritchie, both dec. >On the 1851 and 1861 census she is listed as having been born in Dun , >Forfar. >I can find no record of this couple, Julia and her husband David Strachan >did not have an Isobel, but did have a James, some of their children also >had a James and a James Beattie. >If anyone has any ideas on this , I would be delighted to hear from them. >Thanks >Ruth Edwards ****************************** Subscription-free Internet: Connect to: 0845 608 1304 ID: scot - Password: free It's that easy! Hello Dorothy I am insterested in the part of your email regarding Whitestone in Maryculter, Kincardine. Was/is this Whitestone a farm or a village? I am linked through my family to Whitestone farm outside of Kemnay, Aberdeen, and wonder if this is one and the same place. Regards Mary NZ
Hello Doug, thank you very much for the information about Whitehall. I have entered the information into my computer program. I have another question for you and I will be happy to pay you for the information. My ancestors were Jane Nicol and James Gordon. They were married Feb. 7, 1819 in Strachen. Jane died Feb. 9, 1832 at Blackhall Mansion, Strachen. I descend from their first child, Jannet (Jessie) Gordon. Jannet was born Nov. 20, 1819 in Strachen. Do you have any information concerning the family of Jane Nicol? All I know about her is her marriage and death dates. I do not know who her parents were or her place of birth. Is this a branch of the Nicol family that you have researched? If so, could I have the information. Again, I thank you for the information you sent me. Hello all, I have another ancestor I don't know anything about, his name is Alexander Wattie. Alexander married Betsy McPherson in April 1851 in Strachan. My gr-grandmother Ann Wattie was their first child. I believe Alexander Wattie had something to do with water. Perhaps he did something on a boat, or fishing, or a bridge tender, . I have no idea why I think this. Does anyone know anything about Alexander and or his parents? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Good luck in your research. Sincerely- Dorothy Bailey Louisiana, USA dgcdmb@Bellsouth.net
Hello all, I hope some one can help me. I am researching the family of my grandfather Alexander Massie. My gr-grandmother, Agnes Forbes Massie died May 1, 1916 at Whitestone in Maryculter, Kincardine. The informant of her death was her son-in-law, John Shepherd. Does anyone know of this John Shepherd and his family? Was the name of his wife Agnes Massie? Is anyone researching a Shepherd or Massie family from the Udny or Culsalmond, Aberdeenshire area or the Maryculter area? Any information about the Massie and/or Shepherd families would be greatly appreciated. On my grandmother's side I would like to learn about William Collie. William Collie and Jannet Gordon had a son, George Shepherd Collie, born Nov. 23, 1848 in Strachan. William and Jannet did not marry. William Collie is my gr-gr-grandfather. The only thing I know about him is his name. Thank you all for reading this rather long note. Good luck in your research. Sincerely- Dorothy Bailey Louisiana, USA dgcdmb@Bellsouth.net

Hi Ruth, Thanks so much for your note --- I wonder if it would have been one of my ancestors? My grandfather was Joseph BIRSE, great grandfather was William BIRSE . Great uncles were Alexander , James & William. They would have been the only living male BIRSE relatives in 1900. A BIRSE relative, Euphemia did emigrate to Australia and married an A.
