    3. I am researching my ancestor,Susan Kidd who married Charles Bayne. When Charles died in Dundee in 1823, at some later stage Susan moved to Laurencekirk where she became a merchant. She died in 1836, and is buried at Fordoun, her will shows that she had a number of people as debtors, owing various amounts. Would any lister know whether any records are available for Laurencekirk for 1823, and to whom I should contact, I would like to know what type of merchant she became, apparently not a very successful one...(Her husband had been a Dancing Master) Thanks for any help I may receive, Betty Adelaide, South Australia

    1. Photos connected to FORREST, AITON and SCOTT families
    2. Julia Crawley
    3. Dear Listers, This is my first posting to this list and I hope to locate descendents of the families involved in five photos of the AITON family all taken around 1910 and include two grown-up daughters and three sons. The photos don't give the Christian names of the children. Underneath the photos is written - "The Reverend THOMAS AITON, Minister of Livingston, Linlithgow, Scotland, and Mrs Aiton, and their family, all living 1910. Mrs Aiton, was the daughter of ROBERT SCOTT, whose mother was JANET FORREST, baptised at Glenbervie, Kincardineshire, Scotland Nov 2nd 1787, who married JOHN SCOTT of Smiddyburn, Belhelvie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland." I am a descendent of WILLIAM FORREST [1819- 1899] of Stonehaven and his wife MARGARET GUTHRIE HILL who came out to Western Australia in 1842 and the photos belonged to my grandfather Mervyn Forrest who was a g-grandson of William and Margaret. On the family tree I have which was compiled by Sir John Forrest [my g-g-uncle] in about 1917, Janet Forrest is shown as being the granddaughter of JAMES FORREST [of Glenbervie] and his wife CHRISTIAN BOWES [of Stonehaven]. James Forrest was the brother of DAVID FORREST [of Inchbreck, Glenbervie] who was the g-grand-father of the aforementioned WILLIAM FORREST. I am very happy to send copies of these photos to any descendents of these people. I have sent a similar posting to the FORREST mailing list. Julia Western Australia

The author comments that it has not been occupied for some time, but is in tolerable repair.... The estate was obviously active, he refers to a home farm, amd Muirton may have also been part of the estate - it should at least give you a reasonable target for your map searching. It would also be worth taking a look at the SA, here http://stat-acc-scot.edina.ac.uk/stat-acc-scot/stat-acc-scot.asp. 3. Ian, Thanks for that piece of information. Now I just have to try to work out which of the two she was. Married in Aberdeen in 1834 to Alexander Mutch, she appears on the 1881 census as being born in Rothnich, Kincardineshire around 1806. I have managed to trace many of her descendants, but haven't been able to either confirm her death (she was still alive at the time of her son George's death in 1889) or find her parents. 2. Steve Nethercote
    3. I am looking for more exact location of two places. I know both are reasonably close to the village of Luthermuir and I can find names similar, but not the same, in 1868 and modern maps. 1st Place: "Mains of Caldhame" - I can find "Feus of Caldhame", "West Caldhame", "Waterside of Caldhame", "Caldhame Haugh", "Caldhame Mill" and "Caldhame" all in a little cluster on the eastern side of Luthermuir. 2nd Place: "Muirton of Inglismaldie" - I can find "Inglismaldie Forest" and near it "Inglismaldie", "Inglismaldie Cottage" and close to the "Inglismaldie Forest" are "South Muirton", "Mid Muirton" and "East Muirton". All a little to the south and west of Caldhame. It would help me if I could more precisely locate these two places. Thank you and merry Christmas.
