    3. Thanks for reply Margaret. Oathlaw is barely 15 miles from Kincardine so you never know. Also One George HERD gravitated to Logie Pert and then died in Kirriemuir. We are trying to find James MILLER a Sea Captain who was lost at sea in the months before his daughter was born ..entry in family bible is 'James Anna Murray is the daughter of Captain James MILLER who was lost at sea between Aug1821 and May 23rd 1822 we possess an oil painting of him' We have photo of the Oil painting which is with another descendant of James Anna. Although James Anna is consistent in stating birth place as North Shields Northumberland we can find no trace of a baptism. -- Robin and Margaret McEwen-King Lanark Scotland

    1. HERD or HIRD
    2. Margaret
    3. Is there an MI for William HERD or HIRD in Kincardineshire pre 1800? We begin to suspect that our HERD line came from Kincardineshire... William HERD died in Oathlaw on 22 Mar 1774 age 60y 5d ( MI in Oathlaw Chuchyard) he was 'sometime smith at Fineven 'and married Katherine GALL in 1747. Our question is could he be one of the William HERD's born in Marykirk? There are two candidates ..William chr 8 Mar 1713 son of William and Isabel WILLOCK or WILLOX Or William chr 15 Jun 1715 son of David HERD and Margaret ANDERSON Does any one have either William on their tree to eliminate them from ours? I know the birthdate from the MI is different but these things happen. Robin -- Robin and Margaret McEwen-King Lanark Scotland

    2. Bruce Watt
    3. Ken, The marriage certificate shows John's age as 46 (barely legible) and his parents as John Will and Clemintina Will (Watson). That would give John a birth date of circa 1827 and an age of 53 0r 54 in 1881. I can only assume that the census record is flawed. I understand that not too much credence can be placed on the precision of census ages. regards Bruce Watt Director knowledge.able Ph: (03) 9509 4800 Mob: 0403 254 873 -----Original Message----- From: Ken Coull [mailto:kcoull@shaw.ca] Sent: Thursday, 13 January 2005 1:59 PM To: SCT-KINCARDINE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: John Will & Helen Watt Bruce, I noted your reply to Carol Ann indicating you're related to John WILL & Helen WATT. However, you also indicate that John WILL (1823 - 1891) is the brother of Mary WILL b. 15 June 1832 Bervie. I wonder if you've identified the correct John WILL? Yes, Mary WILL did have a brother John b. 26 Aug 1824 Bervie. However, the John WILL who I believe was married to Helen WATT reports his age as 48 in the 1881 Census record for 84 Barclay Street, Stonehaven -- this would make him born about 1832! Although John confesses to being 14 years older than Helen, was he really 23 years older or are we talking about two different John WILLs? Have you accessed the 1873 marriage record of John WILL & Helen WATT and determined what age John gives himself and who he identifies as his parents? Ken

    3. Looking for information regarding the family of Alexander Duthie and Jean Lyall who were married on 18 Dec 1779 at Laurencekirk and had the following children; James chr. 23 Feb 1781, Laurencekirk. (Possibly the James Duthie who was my ggg grandfather and married a Jean Kessie at Fordoun on 25 May 1805) (If this is the correct person, I have some details of his descendants) Margaret chr. 4 Nov.1783, Laurencekirk. William chr. 27 Mar 1791, Fordoun I have checked all the Margaret and William Duthie deaths at GROS since 1855 till 1900 with negative results 1841 census for Fordoun and Laurencekirk checked with negative result. There is also the possibility that an Alexander chr 16 Apr 1786 Fordoun, and Jean chr. 7 Dec 1788, Fordoun, are also the children of this couple. I have still to run a check for their deaths at GROS. 1841 census for Fordoun and Laurencekirk checked with negative result. Other than James, I have no additional information regarding the children and would be interested in making contact with anyone else who is researching a branch of this family. Alex.
