Dear all, My descent is from David SINCLAIR who married Elisabeth CAIRD on 17 August 1833 at Glenbervie, Kincardine. One of their sons, George SINCLAIR, born 9 August 1835, Glenbervie, married Mary DUNBAR on 2 February 1861 at Glenbervie. Their daughter Mary SINCLAIR, born 15 July 1870 at Drumlishie is my great-grandmother. She married Henry Hermann SCHMIDT at the German Church in Leith on 25 September 1889. I would be delighted to hear of anyone who has the above in their family. Also if anyone can point me in the direction to find on-line details about Glenbervie, and Drumlishie. Regards, Yvonne Purdy

Hullo Doreen, My most sincere apologies for not getting back to you earlier but I have been away. I have a Robert Valentine married to a Caroline Crow. They had one child that I know of, who was named John Crow Valentine. He apparently came out to New Zealand at some stage but have not been able to trace him. Caroline Crow was the daughter of John Crow and his wife mary, nee Duncan. They also had a son named John William Crow. Do any of those names fit in with anything you may have ? I have only just started tracing my family tree and have found the birth of George Edward on 28th September 1808 @ Dunnottar in Kincardine. I believe he married Elizabeth McDonald @ Laurencekirk in 1841. If anyone has any links to either George or Elizabeth your help would be most appreciated. Regards, Peter
G'day Colin, I too am interested in the Valentine name around Laurencekirk and Marykirk. My start point has been James Valentine and Ann Craig married in 1769. They had at least one son, James Valentine, (sometimes it seems spelt according to Scottish custom with a double 'll' ie Vallentine, to distinguish the son from Father-I am advised). I would appreciate any info on 'the line' before 1769 if that is possible. I will provide descendent info as I have thus far in about 3 weeks. The Australian connection from this line as I have it is William Hunter Valentine, born in Marykirk 1846 who came to Melbourne on the steamship 'Pathan' in 1884. He was a steam tractor driver known as 'Wully' in the Mildura area where he worked for McLaren Bros, contracted by Chaffey Bros. to clear land for development. The Maternal line on my 'line' from Ann Craig on were: Margaret Tevendale; Isobel Hunter; Ann Calder; Ruth Hilda Jellet. There is also a Bruce Valentine in NZ I believe that I have been meaning to get in touch with. More later, Cheers, Al Valentine At 16:22 1/08/05 +1200, you wrote: >Subject: Crow, Valentine. > > >>Posting my interest in both the Crow and Valentine surnames. Colin, I spent a long time chasing the 'wrong' family of Valentines in Kincardine, but decided to track down as much info as I could to see if I could link my 'wrong' line with my 'correct' line. As a result I now have quite a lot of information to hand. I can't find any link with your family, but I can give you some information which may be of help. This is the info I have concerning your family. Descendants of Robert Valentine 1 Robert Valentine d: Bef. 1860 .. +Ann Beattie m: July 24, 1819 in Marykirk, Kincardine, Scotland d: Bef. 1867 ........ 2 Robert Valentine b: June 15, 1820 d: October 15, 1867 in East Drum (?) Kincardine ............ +Caroline Mary Crowe b: 1840 m: June 21, 1860 in Laurencekirk, Kincardine, Scotland d: 1891 in Logie Pert ................... 3 James Valentine b: January 26, 1863 in Marykirk, Kincardine, Scotland ................... 3 John Crowe Valentine b: January 6, 1865 in Marykirk, Kincardine, Scotland ................... 3 Mary Elizabeth Valentine b: February 5, 1867 in Marykirk, Kincardine, Scotland I also checked the 1881 census for the family, and found the following entry. North Water Bridge Census Place: Logie Pert, Forfar, Scotland Source: FHL Film 0203495 GRO Ref Volume 304 EnumDist 1 Page 1 Marr Age Sex Birthplace James LYALL M 71 M Laurencekirk, Kincardine, Scotland Rel: Head Occ: Inspector Of Poor & Treasurer School Board Mary LYALL M 61 F Laurencekirk, Kincardine, Scotland Rel: Wife Mary E. VALLENTINE 14 F Marykirk, Kincardine, Scotland Rel: Grand Dau Occ: Scholar Charlotte DUNCAN U 56 F Laurenckirk, Kincardine, Scotland Rel: Visitor Occ: Cook Domestic Servant By 1881 Robert Valentine had died, I don't know where Caroline was, but Mary was living with her grandmother. Mary Duncan married James Lyall in Laurencekirk in 1852 (IGI), so I am quite sure that Mary Lyall is Caroline's mother. I would also make a guess, and suggest that Charlotte Duncan is Mary's sister. If I do manage to make a connection with your family and mine I will let you know. Happy Hunting Doreen Cuthbert Fife

Kathleen In your message regarding the marriage cert. One of the witnesses is Mary Jane Low - do you have connections to this person? Mary NZ
Hello Mary, The LOW link is through the grandparents of the marriage I previously posted yesterday. This is the entry for Helen Low CAIRD,s grandparents. On the 20th day of June 1857 at Upper Toucks, marriage after banns was solemnized between us according to the forms of the Established Church, signed John Caird age 21, address Glithna, Agricultural labourer, bachelor, father Charles Caird, mason, Arbuthnott, mother Jean Watson, signed Hellen Low age 22, address Upper Toucks, house servant, spinster, father David Low, labourer, mother Jane Ewing, Upper Toucks, signed Alex Silver, Minister of Dunnottar, witnesses James Wallace and James Glegg. The Charles CAIRD above is my 3xgreat grandfather. Unfortuneately I have been unable to find David LOW and Helen Ewing or Ewen in the 1841 census or anything much on the LOW family at all. I know there are quite a few Leiper and Masson researchers around and just wondering if any body can find any connection in my latest acquision fom Scotlandspeople site. Caird is my direct line, although this particular family is a branch. Marriage 1904 29 January at 30 David Street, Stonehaven, after banns according to the Forms of the Established Church of Scotland William Leiper, age 21, wool mill worker, bachelor, signed, 16 Arduthie Street, Stonehaven, father James Leiper, Fisherman (deceased) mother Christina Leiper ms Masson (deceased) to Helen Low Caird age 21, domestic servant, spinster, signed, 30 David Street, Stonehaven, father George Scott Caird, carter, mother Jane Caird ms Gilbert, signed Douglas Gordon Barron, Minister of Dunnottar, witnesses James Sherit Gellatly, Mary Jane Low. A David MURRAY was christened 12 Jan 1762 at Arbuthnott, father John. A John MURRAY was christened 7 Jan 1776 at Arbuthnott, father John. A David MURRAY married Catherine EDWARD 13 Sep 1788 at Foudoun. A John Murray married Agnes BRECHIN 3 Aug 1806 at Garvock. Am quite sure that a son of this David lived next to a son of this John from 1841 to 1861 in Arbuthnott. Does anyone have information about the David and John being brothers or not. Of course it could just be coincidence. Thanks Bill ____________________________________________________ Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs
