    3. Hi liz I have seen your posting on the Kincardine list regarding the Coutts family. This is my line as well, decending from John Coutts b. 1806 in Auchabrack. His parents were John Coutts and Margaret Duncan. He married Elizabeth Stewart b. Durris KCD 1815. They had my ggrandmother, Jane in 1850. My grandfather John Harvey was born in Strachan in 1875. Trying to follow the Coutts line is very confusing. Where does you Coutts line take you Bev Phillips Markham Ontario Canada --- liz nz <liznzgene@hotmail.com> wrote: > Hi Peter, > > Have just seen your 2002 posting to the Kincardine > list. > > I too have Margaret Coutts (Daughter of David Coutts > amd Margaret Duncan) > and > David Duncan(son of David Duncan and Elizabeth > Stewart/Stuart) > > Margaret Coutts died June 10th 1902 @ Woodmount > Cottage Banchory Ternan aged > 89yrs > David Duncan died Feb 5th 1888 @ Woodmount cottage > Banchory Ternan aged > 86yrs. > > Is this " your" family? > > Strachan > > Names and dates on Stone No 54: > Helen > DUNCAN > 12 Jan 1851 > James > DUNCAN > 19 Nov 1863 > David > DUNCAN > 23 Nov 1873 > Archibald > DUNCAN > 5 Apr 1876 > David > DUNCAN > 5 Feb 1888 > Margaret > COUTTS > 10 Jun 1902 > Elizabeth > DUNCAN > 5 Jan 1913 > NOTE: This is not the complete inscription > You will find the full text in booklet no AA185 from > ANESFHS > > > Look forward to hearing from you and anyone else who > can connect to this > family I have "my line" to the present day but > would like to attach some > branches. > > > Liz > Christchurch > NZ > > _________________________________________________________________ > Looking for love? 2. Sharon E Jameson
    3. Hi Liz Parents of Margaret Coutts were John Coutts and Margaret Duncan as you know. John Coutts was born 16 May 1765 at Auchabrack in the Forest of Birse. His parents were John Coutts and Martha Middleton. He married Margaret Duncan on 29 December 1796 - banns were called at Birse. Children: Isobel - 26 October 1797 Janet - 4 May 1800 Alexander - 24 April 1803 who married Barbara Duncan 20 March 1827 at Lumphanan (her parents were Joseph Duncan and Elizabeth Esson) John - 17 May 1806 married Elizabeth Stewart 16 Oct 1846 at Strachan Elizabeth - 30 April 1809 married Andrew Birss 4 October 1829 at Birse Margaret - 20 April 1811 (as you know married David Duncan) Mary - 3 June 1816 Margaret Duncan died in June 1816 after the birth of Mary - it states on the parish register that the mother had died. Next generation back: John Coutts married Martha Middleton (no record of this marriage) Children: Alexander born 16 September 1762 John - 16 May 1765 married Martha Middleton Robert - between 1764 and 1772 Peter - abt 1779 married Martha Low 21 April 1824 in Birse. Jannet - 31 August 1784 William - 3 January 1787 Charles - 25 October 1789 Given the ages of the children and what appears to be two groupings, it is possible that Martha Middleton was John Coutts 2nd wife. There is an age difference of 15 - 20 years between John Coutts and Martha Middleton. If you are interested I can send parish register entries/census information etc privately to you. 3. Helen At the present time I have no idea where Margaret Moir was born or who her parents were. If I have the right entry for the family of James Crockat in the 1841 Census for Fettercairn, Margaret is not listed as wife, (possibly has died) and a Diana Moir age 30 is shown as a female servant. Maybe she was Margaret's sister and has come in to look after the children, Edward 10, James 12, and Mary 8. Diana Moir is given as born out of the county so if she is a sister Margaret might also have been born out of the county. 1. LONGMUIR Dates
    2. Hi Helen, James Longmuir and Chrisrian Beattie had their children between 1734 and 1749 all in Fetteresso, Their son John married to Elisabeth Collie had their children from 1761 to 1779 all in Fetteresso also. Elisabeth Collie is from Durris but was born in 1737. The Abernethy link to the Longmuir family happened when James Abernethy married Kennedy Longmuir, a daughter of John and Elisabeth, (no marriage date found) and had Isabel Abernethy in 1791, Fetteresso. The Smith family of John Smith and Isobel Wyllie had their children between 1775 and 1766 again in Fetteresso. One of their sons married a sister of Kennedy named Rosanna. The major locations of the Longmuir family was in Fetteresso and the City of Aberdeen. I wish I could be of more help. Best of luck, Jamie

    3. Bryan, Thanks! My Margaret Moir, 3rd g.grandmother was born 1786 in Marculter to John Moir and Jean Brown. She had an older brother, George Moir born 1777 at Echt, Aberdeen and I believe that's where his dad was born also. I have been unable to determine what happened to this George and keep on the lookout for anything that might point to him. Your Margaret Moir would possibly be the right age to be his daughter and considering he had a sister named Margaret, and your Margaret named a son George Moir ............ pulling at straws? If by chance you see a connection along the way, please get in touch as I do have a 'little' information on the family. (No Diana, however) Good Luck on your searches! 3. Jamie, This certainly will be of no help to you [I'm SORRY] but maybe along the way you will be able to shed some light on my brick wall. Do you have any dates for your Longmuir's? I have an Anne Longmuir (g.grandmother) who was born out of wedlock 07 April 1853 to James Longmuir and Jean Milne at Durris. There were at least two James Longmuir's of acceptable age in Durris at the time Anne was conceived and I have no way of finding which is her father. Any help would be so exciting as I've tried to pinpoint this to no avail. Anne married William Forbes and they came to Louisiana USA in 1886 with three of their children, the fourth being born the day after their arrival. She died before I was old enough to remember her but I have fond memories of William Forbes, my g.grandfather. 3. George Crockett was born on 1 Oct 1827 in Fettercairn, Kincardaine, Scotland. He died on 16 Aug 1923 in Clarence Rd., Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. He was buried on 18 Aug 1923 in Linwood, Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. George married (1) Margaret Wyllie Hamilton on 22 Feb 1870 in House A William, Dunedin, New Zealand, Dunedin. Margaret was born in 1836. She died on 28 Jul 1872 in West Taieri, Otago, New Zealand. George married (2) Mary Alice Neville daughter of Samuel Neville and Sarah Munson on 4 Mar 1879 in Schoolhouse, Otaio, New Zealand, New Zealand. Mary was born on 17 Aug 1852 in Great Horkesley, Essex, England. She was christened on 19 Sep 1852 in Great Horkesley, Essex, England. She died on 26 Oct 1942 in Shirley, Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. She was buried on 29 Oct 1942 in Linwood, Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. George's father was James Crockat and his mother was Margaret Moir. They were married on 22 Dec 1825 in Fordoun, Kincardaine. James Crockat's father is possibly one of the James found in the records for Fettercain and Fordoun. But which James? In New Zealand George Crockett named his three sons, George Moir Crockett, Edward Bannerman Crockett, and Walter Norman Crockett.
