I am searching the existence of a 'Laird Kinloch'. Possible first name 'David' . Date reference 1790's. Kincardine area. David Burnett
You're welcome. It has now caused my curiosity to chase that line myself. The Dun/Dunn family were Printers, a lot of them followed the trade. My Sherret folk of Fordoun and Arbuthnott also ran a farm they called "Sillyflat" on the Bervie Road. I have pics of it. I'm talking off the top of my head but it seems to me it is a Parish, a district of Stonehaven. Janet, Thanks so much for the info on Dunnottar. I now know it is a Parish in the town of Stonehaven in Kincardineshire, Scotland. Unfortunately, we will not be going through that area on our tour, so I guess we'll just have to go again another time! I can't wait to see Scotland the first time -- we leave on Sunday! Connie Luck
Anyone have access to Dunnotar parish records? Doing research in that area and the head of the family was born Dunnoter Scotland. Name was George Murray born 1851. Jeff
Hi, I am a new subscriber and have a question about the above subject. My Bible records indicate that my GGGrandfather (Garden Taylor) was born and emmigrated to America from Dunnottar, Kincardine, Scotland. I found him in the 1841 census in the Parish of Dunnottar in Kincardineshire. I assume that there is or was a town of Dunnottar. I know there is a Dunnottar Castle, but I don't see any town on current maps of Scotland. We will be leaving for a three-week tour of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales and I'd love to be able to see the area where my ancestor lived. I see a town Kincardine, but it is a long ways from the Dunnottar Castle. Does anyone know if there is a town called Dunnottar now? Thanks for any help or info anyone may have. Hello everyone, For anyone who has an interest in family from Stonehaven......I have now added the names of those Stonehaven residents who lost their lives in World War Two to my Stonehaven War Memorial Website. Please check it out when you have time and if you have a connection to any of the names inscribed on the Memorial, I would appreciate hearing from you. I will also be happy to send you any info I have in my records, so that we can compare our notes. Has anyone a copy of the 1851 indices? Would SKS do a lookup for me? I would like to know if there is an entry for a RJP Littlewort (Lt., R.N.) who may appear in either Catterline Parish or in Stonehaven itself. Occupation will say Coast Guard. If in Stonehaven the address would be Arduthie St and I'm curious to know what kind of place it was in those days. Very many thanks Ian Macwhirter
Dear Katy, As your ancestor was a Minister it may be worth consulting the Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae (a series of books on Ministers since the Reformation). These books can include the information you are looking for on family members plus details on the minister's career. The editors were Hew Scott and the Rev WS Crockett. You should be available through your local library or archive service. Hope this helps. Hello, Are only ministers listed in these books? My ancestor was an elder. Where would I find information on him? or were all males called elders. I'm a new subscriber. Is anyone researching a Richard Littlewort who may have been a coastguard at Catterline in the early 19th c. Or possibly at Stonehaven. Does anyone know where the names of coastguards in the 19th c. at Catterline or Stonehaven may be seen? Finally, it seems that the M.I.s at St Philip's Episcopalian church at Catterline have not been recorded - is this correct? Very many thanks Ian Macwhirter
