Heather/Sharon/Mary, I have a Margaret SCROGGIE (b. Abt 1791 Durris parish - 30 Jul 1846 Durris) married to Charles SMITH (chr. 21 Dec 1780 Durris - 17 Jul 1846 Durris). Is Margaret related to any of your SCROGGIEs?
Hello, I am a new member and helping my husband trace his roots. Unfortunately, his family did not keep in close contact. We are trying to trace anyone by the name of MUTCH resident in Fetteresso in 1896, probably farm workers. Can anyone help? Many thanks, Anne, West Yorks.

Hi Mary & List, May I recommend to everyone, who hasn't done so already, to check out John Burness's home page. He has done a one name study on the name BURNESS (from whom Robbie Burns was descended) which originated in Kincardine. He has a database containing over 15,000 names and I doubt there is a Kincardinshire name missing. I know for a fact Mary that the names LYON,PAUL & THOMSON are included in the database. His Homepage is http://www.burness.ca/ To go straight to the database http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=burness Regards Pam Manning ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Cubitt" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 10, 2001 11:26 AM Subject: posting surnames > > Hello everyone > After a sort of confused start I will now post my surnames, and hopefully someone may just see someone of interest. > > LYON Glenbervie > SINCLAIR Glenbervie > PAUL Glenbervie > SCROGGIE Banchory Ternan > CANT Glenbervie > THOMSON Fetteresso, Maryculter, > MOUAT Maryculter > FORBES Banchory Devenick and Dunnottar > > Regards > Mary Cubitt > Hamilton > NZ >
As the Leightons descend upon Banchory this weekend has the snow cleared? NSW coast is flooded from Wingham to the Queensland coast, but at least we do not have the foot and mouth disease to worry about. Hope it hasn't hit Kincardine. Hello List If anyone is viewing the 1851 census for any area between Fordoun and Montrose, could I ask a favour and keep your eyes open for the following family: George SCOTT aged c.41 born St Cyrus, KCD Isabella SCOTT aged c.42 born Dun, Angus Isabella - daug. aged c.17 born St Cyrus Alexander - son aged c.15 born Fordoun Jean - daug. aged c.14 born fordoun James - son aged c.12 born fordoun Elizabeth - daug. aged c.11 born Fordoun William - son aged c.9 born Fordoun Mary - daug. aged c.7 born Fordoun Margaret - daug. aged c.3 born Fordoun in 1841 they were at the Mill of Kincardine (George is a Meal Miller by occupation). By 1851 they were not in the parish of Fordoun. By Dec 1854 part (if not all) the family were in Hillside, Montrose. But where were they in 1851????? I would love to find this family in 1851. I wish to establish all children had survived infancy in order to continue my search for siblings of my gggrandmother and complete that next piece of the puzzle. If anyone does find them - who else was with them? Here is hoping. Best Regards and Many Thanks Cris NZ

Hello everyone Thank you for all the wonderful responses I received to my query "have I been subscribed"! My reason for the confusion, is that I subscribe to the Aberdeen list. When an email comes via that list, the words Aberdeen, are in the address line. Obviously the same doesn't happen with the Kincardine list. Never mind, now I know. I will post my interests in my next message. Thanks once again with kind regards Mary Hamilton NZ
Hello List Is anyone connected/link, have any info etc on James SCOTT. He was born c.1772, but do not know where. His occupation was Limestone Quarrier. He married early 1800's Helen BRAND in St Cyrus and he died 1819 in St Cyrus aged 47yrs. I descend from his son George, but would love to know what happened to George's siblings and who James's parents were. Here is hoping Regards Cris

I am planning a research trip to Scotland for maximum ten days in March/April. I am researching a book focusing on the mercantile activities and lives of ANDREW LOW, born 1779 to James Low and Catherine Croll. His parents are buried in the Caterline Kineff graveyard. James Low died in 1781 leaving a widow and eight children, they had been tenants farmers in Crawton. I am trying to find out what might have happened to the family since the children Andrew, James, Alexander and George, who all emigrated to Savannah, Georgia in the early 1800's were well educated. Catherine Croll was from the Fettercairn area. The other focus is on my great grandfather ANDREW LOW. born 1812. He was the older Andrew's nephew and probably the son of either Willia Low (1767) married Katherine Reid, they are buried in Brechin along with several of their children. he other possible father is JOHN LOW, born 1773, also the older Andrew's brother. That is the mystery because the birth information in the Savannah Archives is wrong. I have several possibilities and I believe from other clues that this John Low may have gone to Aberdeen. The only clue that comes direct from my great grandfather in Savannah is that he lists his birthplace as Kincardineshire in the 1850 census. I am seeking the help of an expert historian/genealogist who could help me unravel the threads and interperet the information I have. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you in advance.
