    3. Hello Jane I don't know if the following is of any use to you. I looked up the info at the Scottish Genealogy Society in Edinburgh. John May and Mary Scott married on 30 June 1762 in St Cyrus. John May fathered the following children (it does not mention the mother!) He lived at Stone of Morphie (various spellings of this, i.e. Stone o'morphy) which I think may be a farm in St Cyrus Helen May christened 22 May 1763 Mary May christened 10 March 1765 John May christened 5 October 1766 Isobel May christened 26 February 1770 Robert May christened 12 January 1772 David May christened 12 November 1774 Katherine May christened 24 December 1775 All born in the parish of St Cyrus I found a marriage of a Margaret May to Thomas Balfour on 5 June 1790 in St Cyrus. I don't know if that is the same one. Best wishes Nancy Douglas ----- Original Message ----- From: Jane Bain <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 04, 2001 11:13 PM Subject: Helen May St Cyrus > Looking for info please on Helen May, b abt 1763 in St Cyrus. 1. Settlement Records
    2. Rhonda Thompson
    3. Hi everyone, Still finding my way around these lists and have messed up quite a few times. Someone told me it might be possible to look up Settlement Records and also that there might be censuses prior to 1841 to locate an ancestor who came from England to Scotland. His name was William FINCHER and he married Barbara GARDEN on 8th April 1826 in Nigg, Kincardine. Does anyone know whether there are settlement records for Nigg? Where would I look for them if they exist? Are there any census records pre 1841 in Kincardine or Aberdeen? Also any ideas on why my William FINCHER might have moved to Kincardine/Aberdeen during this period. He was described as a stone dresser in the 1841 census in Old Machar, Aberdeen. This is a 15 year old mystery i.e. where did William FINCHER originally come from? I am a desperate woman!!! Help! Rhonda Thompson, Sydney, Australia

    1. Garden and Fincher in Nigg, Kincardine
    2. Rhonda Thompson
    3. Hi, I am new to the mailing list and unsure if I'm doing it right. Willaim Fincher married Barbara Garden at Nigg, Kincardine on 8th April, 1826. William Fincher was born in England so I have no idea what he was doing in Nigg at that time (apart from getting married). They had nine children all born in Newhills and Old Machar, Aberdeenshire. 1. Christina Fraser Fincher 2. Helen Hill Fincher 3. William Fincher 4. James Allan Fincher 5. Barbara Fincher 6. John Cumming Fincher 7. Robert Forbes Fincher 8. Jane Cumming Fincher 9. Grace Poole Fincher With all those middle names it looks like it should be so easy but I am having a lot of trouble sorting my Garden family out. I think Helen Hill was Barbara Garden's mother. But otherwise I'm at a loss. Any information apppreciated on the Garden family or the English in Scotland around this time greatly appreciated. William Fincher (snr.) was a stone dresser in the 1841 census. Rhonda Thompson Sydney, Australia

    3. Hello Fiona I also am looking at the Fotheringhams in Kincardine. I found your Helen and also her parents' marriage, i.e. Saturday, 23 December 1837. There did not appear to be any siblings born in Kincardine. Unfortunately the marriage notice did not give any further information. I will try to check the birth of Mary Allan in Kincardine at some other time. 2. Hi folks, Is there some kind soul out there with access to the pre 1855's Mi's for Arbuthnott who would be willing to do a look up of the pre 1855 Monumental Inscriptions for Kincardineshire for the death of Mary Fotheringham nee Allan between 1839 -1842. I haven't found her on the 1851 census and haven't seen the 1841 records. Family legend says she died around the time her daughter Helen was 2 years old which would place the death between 1839 and 1942. No other children appear to have been born to Mary and her husband James Fotheringham. Thanks in advance, Fiona

    3. Unfortunately, anyone using any Outlook service or Micro Soft product to access the net is going to be targeted. In spite of my many warnings and bannings from lists for these warning. And in spite of the many aware persons telling others not to open attachments of any ilk, from any person, known or unknown, ROOTSWEB will not protect you! Your list administrator cannot protect you. Apparently, I am an "abuser" for telling listers how to protect themselves. You will get what you deserve if you persist in not following the very simple instructions of those of us who have some technical skills, have tried our best to help, but are being prevented by rootsweb and list administrators from spreading the gospel. If you are going to open attachments, do it off list and one on one, privately. Then you know for sure from whence it came and can deal with that one person instead of bogging down the list with all these virus memos. And even they may not know they sent it to you. But that is another issue for them to deal with. Filter them out until they get their act together. DO WHAT OTHERS ARE TELLING YOU TO DO! YOU ARE NOT ALWAYS DEALING WITH A VIRUS! YOU ARE DEALING WITH IMBEDDED PROGRAMS WHICH CAN COME TO YOU IN ANY FORMAT...EVEN AN INNOCENT E-MAIL WITH NO ATTACHMENT! ACCEPT NOTHING THAT IS NOT FAMILIAR TO YOU, TRIED AND TRUE. BE RUTHLESS...JUST LIKE YOU WOULD WITH CANCER! Nicola Batmaz wrote: > > Just another note about the virus > I think I am clear but maybe if anyone sees an attachment with this email please would they let me know!

    1. Allan
    2. Alexander Gray
    3. Hi Fiona When searching for my Allan family I came across an Alexander Allan and Helen Hendry in Arbuthnott who had eight of a family and the 2nd oldest was a daughter Mary baptised on 29 Aug 1821 at Arbuthnott. Could this be your Mary? It would make her aged 16 years when she married in 1837, this being the minimum age for marrying in Scotland. Full details regarding the other children are available on the LDS site. I would suggest you post an entry asking if anyone can do a look up of the pre 1855 Monumental Inscriptions for Kincardineshire for the death of Mary Fotheringham nee Allan between 1839 and the date of the 1841 census. I assume you failed to find her in the 1841 census? Note - My Allans' turned out to be from Brechin, Angus and I'm not aware of any connection with the above family. Best of luck with your research. 2. Dear List, I've been really stuck for years now on my Fotheringham ancestors. Helen Fotheringham was born at Townhead, Arbuthnott, Kincardineshire on 1st October 1839 to James and Mary Fotheringham. Family legend says her mother Mary Fotheringham (nee Allan) died within a couple of years of Helen's birth but I can find nothing in any logical search. Does anyone have access to burial records or anything else they thik might help? Also does anyone know who this Allan or Allen family was? Thanks in advance. Fiona
