Hi Ian Thank you very much for your message. I think that James must be the son of John BLACKLAWS and Margaret ARCHIBALD b. abt 1876 (he was 6 at the time of the 1881 census) in Kinnell. This would make him 42 or 43 at the time of his death but it could still be right. If so this makes him my 2C3R. Is this all the info you have on him? > Hello Jamie, St. Nathalan built a small chapel at Cowie on the cliff top, over looking the North Sea. I believe this was the chapel used by Cowie Castle which belonged to the Frasers until 1369, when it passed to the Keith's of Dunnottar. Within the old kirkyard is the ruins of the Chapel of St. Mary and St. Nathalan, known as "St. Mary's of the Storms". The chapel was dedicated on 22 May 1276. The old kirkyard is the resting place for many of my Spark ancestors. I visited this cemetery in 1997 and took tons of pictures. The cemetery is right on the cliff-top about 1 mile north of Stonehaven/Cowie, and is now neighbor to an 18 hole golf course. I can check the Pre 1855 burials for this cemetery for you, or answer any direct questions, if you would like to contact me off list. Hi Everyone. I'm going to unsubscribe for a month. I'm moving 3000 miles from Ontario to British Columbia. I will have to get a new ISP and a new e-mail address. I have been so busy with this move I'm not sure if I finished the 1881 census look-ups I was doing for some list members. If I still owe you a look up please let me know at [email protected] this is just a short term e-mail address, until I get settled. Bye for now. Jill :)
Hello everyone, Wondering if anyone knows of Our Lady of the Storms Church in Stonehaven. I spoke to a gentleman from Forfar who said there were a huge quantity of LEES buried there. Does anyone have any info on this cemetary? Thank you Jamie Lees Windsor Ontario Canada Researching LEES, MACDONALD, THOM
Hi List I've had four great responses to my requests for information about Janet DONALD and have thanked them all off-list, but I'd just like to say how much I appreciate the help I've had. The next step is to find out more about Janet/Jannet SNOWIE who married William DONALD in Echt, Aberdeenshire in April 1743. I've found two possibles on the IGI births, but would love to be able to narrow it down. Jo Myers in New Zealand
This Artillery Unit is part of The Royal Regiment of Artillery (British Army) which was made up of The Royal Garrison Artillery formed 1716, The Royal Field Artillery formed 1716 and the Royal Horse Artillery formed 1793. The records for the British Army are at the Public Records Office and I suggest you check out their Website for Military records. If James Fullerton served in this Regiment then you can get details of his service from records of discharge. These are available from the LDS FHC's or the PRO. For the period you are looking for you need to know the Regiment. Hi List, Am trying to locate Margaret HANNAH born 1881/82 but dont know where. I have had several searches done thru the GRO in Southport to find Margaret but to no avail. I believe that HANNAH is a populair name in Scotland, and am therefore putting my query to the list. Margaret Catherine HANNAH married a Thomas Henry FISHER in ???? - their first child was born in 1897 in Hartlepool. On the birth cert of this child it says "Margaret Hannah now the wife of Thomas Fisher" so I have a feeling that they got married after the birth of the child 27.11.1897 but before registration 22.1.1898. Marriage cant be found at the GRO Southport for the years 1895-1900. It could be that Margaret came from Scotland, met Thomas FISHER in Hartlepool and had his child before they were married. To save any embaressment, they could have let on that they were already married but secretly went up to Scotland to get married after the birth - all guess work. As Southport are unable to find her birth nor her marriage in England and Wales, I guessing that she may have come from Scotland. She lived in Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Hartlepool and had a total of 9 children. Margaret died of throat cancer in 1943 in Hartlepool. Does anyone see any connection with this Margaret Fisher (nee HANNAH). Or any suggestions to a particular area in Scotland where there were a lot of HANNAHs. Thanks in advance. Vivienne (living in Holland)
Looking for any information I can find on Janet DONALD who married James STEWART in Banchory Devenick in 1812. I believe she may the daughter of Alexander DONALD and Elspet REID, but I'm not certain. anyone with DONALD connections? Jo Myers in New Zealand
Hi: My ancestor David Watson b.1782 at Fordoun. He enlisted in the Royal Artillary also, as he was mentioned as a Pensioner in the 1851 census from that regiment. I wrote to the PRO near London and from there I hired one of their accredited researchers who found for me his military record. He was aboard ship as a gunner under a Lt. Philpot in the 1812-14 war against the Americans and stationed in Halifax. Although, no factual relation to your ancestor, there are some similarities. I often wondered why the R.A. instead of a highland regiment. A search of the Civil Marriage registers for Marykirk & for St. Cyrus shows the link between the Don & Nicol families which you are seeking. David Don who married Jane Gordon in Marykirk in 1869 was the brother of Isabella Don who married George Nicol in St. Cyrus in 1861. Parents were Hercules Don & Isabella m.s. Duthie. Hope this helps. Eileen.
My ancestor, James Strachan FULLERTON, left the Benholm area of Kincardine about 1780 for Halifax, Nova Scotia. While there he apparently joined a Masonic lodge that had been founded by Brethren belonging to Major Anthony Farrington's company of the 4th Battalion Royal Regiment of Artillery, which was stationed in Halifax from 1781 to 1784. I know of no connection between J.S.F. and the military but nearly ten years of his life are unaccounted for and I am trying to determine if he might have been in this artillery unit or some other that would account for the missing time. Does anyone recognize this Artillery unit as one from Angus or Kincardine? Or would anyone be able to point me in the right direction to locate such information? Thanks in advance! Wallace W.
