    3. Hi Tom and Jessie, A Margaret Ann Butchart shows up in a search I did of Muckart Households in the 1881 Census. She was working as a domestic servant at Tarryburn House, in St Vigeans, in Forfar. Her age is listed as 17 and her marital status was unknown. I also came across a James Aberdien in another household in the 1881 census. He was lodging in a Lodging House at 52 Cromwell Street, Barony, in Lanark. His occupation is listed as a Draper. He was lodging with John R. Muckart who was also a Draper. James was listed as being born in Aberdeen and was aged 23 at the time. His marital status was unknown. The spelling of the surname Aberdien is different, but I included it anyways.I also have Strachan, Taylor, Christie, and Reid in my line. 2. Hello, I was wondering if some kind soul with access to either the 1841 or 1851 Census would be so kind as to look up my ggggrandparents who lived in Johnshaven, Kincardineshire. They were: Alexander Lindsay and Anne LIndsay. They had a daughter Susan Lindsay born 1833 (baptised June 3. 1833). Unfortunately I have no other details. Also, could somebody tell me how I might check if either Alexander or Anne are buried in the local churchyard at Johnshaven? Many thanks, Carolyn May

    3. Liz The best records are here in Oz. There are indexes available and if a convict so much the better as you will get more information. What is the time period? The other item to know is the port of Arrival as this will reduce your search. If you have checked these indexes then it is most likely at the age of 10 it maybe family plus children. I have not found any useful UK based records apart from those made available from Ireland Regards Gerry "Liz (by way of TCF )" wrote: > > Hi All , > Can some kind person tell me where I can find shipping lists coming to > Aus from Scotland ( Kincardine O'Neil area ). > I want both convict ships and Immagration ships, I am trying to find > how an ancester arrived age abt 10 yrs. > > Regards > Liz > Bowral NSW > > reasearching > BOLTON Robert & Ann Smith > GODSON William & Ellen - George & Margery > GORDON Caroline A & Nelson John Proctor > GORDON George & Mary Emmeline Vane > GORDON Cyril & Ida May Reynolds > GORDON George & Mary Heffernan & Janey Smith > KEARINES Ivanhoe S & Emma L.Godson > KEARINES Edward & Elizabeth Clayton > GODSON William & Ann Parker > WATTS John & Elizabeth Norman > LARGE Elizabeth M. > RATHBONE Mary Ann > REYNOLDS Ida May > REYNOLDS Daniel > VANE ( Waine ) Stephen & Elizabeth Mandeville > VANE John & Jane Parker > > ============================== > Visit Ancestry.com for a FREE 14-Day Trial and enjoy access to the #1 > Source for Family History Online. 3. Hi Frances, I have Massons on two branches who may be connected to each other, but so far have not found the link. I have William Masson who married Ann Leiper, April 16, 1837 in Banchory Devenick. They had three children that I have found. William, Margaret Leys and John, all born in Banchory Devenick. Margaret Leys Masson married James Bridgeford. I have a Christian Masson who married Thomas Christie in Birse, Aberdeenshire. I do not know where she was born. Their children were born in Echt, Banchory Ternan amd Maryculter. Re Ewen, I have Margaret Ewen who married Thomas Christie, the grandson of the above Thomas Christie. They seem to have been from the Echt, Aberdeenshire area. There are 5 James Ewens who appear to be connected to her, and are either from Echt, Cluny or Forfar. I have a Thomas Henderson who married Barbara Aberdein. He was from Crimmond, with family born in St. Nicholas. Thomas 's father was Ann Mason. Hope you find something that will help us both. 1. [SCT-KINCARDINE] Fettercairn Cemetery headstones
    2. Steve Nethercote
    3. A long time ago I found a headstone in a very old transcript of the Fettercairn monument inscriptions that is quite different to that in the popular "Pre 1855 Inscriptions..." and the Fettercairn Monument Inscriptions from the 1960's. It appears that the text on the headstone eroded quite badly. The transcript was date 1929 (I think). The transcript that I am looking for has an inscription for John Aikenhead. It gives his wife's name and some important dates. What I would like is the reference to the transcript so that I can find it again and also the full text of John Aikenhead's inscription. In case I have been unclear. I already have the text from the otherwise excellent Pre 1855 Incriptions book. It is the earlier transcript that I am looking for. Regards Steve Nethercote

    3. Excuse me? Why do you think the Isobella who bore children in 1839 would have been too old to bear a child in 1850? What imbecile said that? (gosh, I hope it wasn't your mother or your husband!) My 4-g grandmother in Angus bore her first child in 1740 at roughly 26 years. She bore her last - the tenth -child at 45 and she lived until 80. My 3-g grandmother in Nova Scotis bore her first child in 1792 at age 22 and her last - also the tenth - at age 41 in 1811, living another 25 years. Women weren't wimps in those days .. . they didn't have epidurals or C-sections, and they didn't have either contraception or RU-235. Many died in childbirth and many lived long and fruitful (literally) lives. I can't say whether Isabella did or didn't take in a child of a relative and I won't interpret the records but I am certainly confused regarding your problem accepting the possibility that he was her child simply based on age. My advice is to accept it as written unless and until you find some real discrepancy in the records or some other indication that he was not her child. Keep on truckin' !
