I did find this virus as described below > in my computer. Bervie, You are the victim of a hoax as mentioned by others. To all others: It was Bervie this time but could be yourself next. I can but advise everyone to learn how hoaxes can be just as damaging to the Internet as viruses. The first thing to do when you think you've been infected or you receive a warning is NOT TO PANIC. Research the information and your situation first. I find the "Encyclopeadia" at www.vet.com.au to be pretty good. www.antivirus.com has a good "freebie" called "Housecall" (or similar) to check your system. www.grisoft.com have a good free version of their software. [Caveat: I subscribe to Vet and use the free AVG from grisoft as well. I've used Housecall. I have no commercial interest in any these companies other than a satisfied user of them.] For details on or current hoax go to: http://www3.ca.com/Virus/Virus.asp?ID=9721 You owe it to yourself to do some basic research and learn about Viruses, Worm, Hoaxes and the like. It will help you to minimise the real impact from any of the above and save hundreds and hundreds of hours of family research. Final tip! Don't forget to backup regularly off your main Hard Drive to another medium. Have a great Christmas and a very successful 2002. Andrew Clark

Also it was late at night when some of us have brains more asleep than at other times. Hope it didn't cause too much difficulty for anyone. 1. [SCT-KINCARDINE] CANADA CENSUS - GOOD NEWS!
    2. Pat Galovich
    3. Following email received from Gordon Watts, the gentleman who has been a tower of strength in our campaign to have public access to our historic census records. Good news for all genealogists and the Canadian people as a whole! Pat __________________ Greetings All. Sound the Trumpets!! Ring the Bells!! Shout it from the rooftops!! I have just received a telephone call from the Office of Senator Lorna Milne. The Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology has PASSED Bill S-12 - An Act to Amend the National Archives of Canada Act and Statistics Act (census records), WITHOUT AMENDMENT. The Bill will now be referred back to the Senate in Report Stage and will receive more debate. We are optimistic that following that debate Bill S-12 will pass third reading and be referred to the House of Commons. We still have a ways to go, but having the Senate Committee pass this Bill, especially without amendment, has been a major step towards achieving our goal of regaining the public access to Historic Census records that we are presently denied. While passed without amendment, the Senate Committee did have some observations to make regarding the Bill. I am not at this time aware of what those observation are, but will post them as soon as I know what they are. Having passed this stage does not mean that we can let up on our efforts to let MPs and Senators how we feel regarding this issue. I encourage you to write the Members of the Senate Committee thanking them for their accepting Bill S-12. Write other Senators to encourage them to support the Bill in debate and to vote to pass the Bill in third reading. Write the MPs as well to seek their support when the Bill is referred to the House of Commons. Continue to collect signatures on our petitions. We need to tell our representative in Parliament that it is not just a handful of genealogists and historians that seek access to these records -- it is the people of Canada who do so. This morning I am a 'happy camper'. Please forward this news to all mail lists to which you belong.

    3. Hello, Firstly I would like to thank all those who answered my "Monboddo" query. I apologize for the e-mail bounce message. Hopefully it has been straightened away and my [email protected] should find me every time. Strangely enough for those who received the message rest assured that your e-mail did come through. Computers.. you got to love them. I am a decendant of James Burnett (Lord Monboddo) and not some strange bird trying to have fun with you. Another James Burnett (of Lagavin) purchased Monboddo, and 6 other Kincardineshire lands, Kair, Whitefield, Sillyflat, Hallgreen, Johshaven and Ballandro. My intent is to locate the areas mentioned and find out their locations and sizes. Further to my study on the infighting that went on between the Burnett's of Monboddo and the Burnett's of Kemnay over land acqisition. Sad to say that anger over this remains to this day as I told in rather harsh terms by a Kemnay "cousin". For those who are linguistly inclined , any ideas on the derivation of names ending in "o" such as Monboddo, Ballandro, etc? Sincerely David Coull Burnett Canada http://members.home.net/dcburnett/

    3. Thank you for your reply David. All I have on Murray is , Janet Murray a daughter of Thomas Murray and Anne Flight born in 1772 in the Dundee area and who married Alexander Gaudie/Gadie on December 13, 1800 at Marykirk, Kincardine. They had at least five children all born at Marykirk. The only son - that I know of - was Alexander who married Isabella Taylor in Dunnotar, later settling in Montose and starting what I call to simplify my records the Gaudie/etc. Montrose group. Colin

    1. [SCT-KINCARDINE] Gaudie-Goudie-Gauldie -etc
    2. Colin D. Allerton
    3. Hello everbody: I am new to this so please forgive any inadverdent sins in procedure. I am researching the name Gauldie ( originating in Angus around the late 1700's although there is the odd example to be found earlier), of the more traditionally spelt Gaudie/Goudie/Gadie/Galdie/etc./etc. group. It would seem almost certain that the Gauldie branch springs from a William Gadie/Gawdie who married a Jean Duncan in Arbroath on December 2, 1769, (She was born Abt. 1744 in Inverkeillor and her parent were David Duncan and Margaret Dorae(?)). The had three sons (all that I know of anyway) all born at St. Vigeans. These were David Gauldie/ Gadie (b. 1772 and m. Ann Towns), Alexander Gaudie/Gadie (b.1775 and m. Janet Murray) and Andrew Gaudie/Gadie (b. 1776 and m. Elizabeth Colbert or Cuthhbert). The descendants of these are pretty well documented and scattered around the world today with the names of Gaudie, Goudie and Gaulide as wella s some variations. The Gauldie branch howevber is descended from David and Ann. The question is who was the William married to Jean Duncan. Tradition, rumour, etc. always comes back to a Shetland origin (perhaps via Kincardine). I would greatly apppreciate if any one could help me with suggestions on what to do next (so would quite a few others around the world) as to how to tackle this problem. Thanks Colin North Carolina

    2. Kathleen Smart
    3. I have not posted for some time and I have made some progress since the last posting - so here goes. James CAIRD and Ann HARRIS/HERRIES married 9 Jul 1774 Fordoun. Their marriage extract reads " In the OPR for the Parish of Conveth there is the following entry for the date of 12th June 1774 James CAIRD in this Parish and Ann HERES in the Parish of Fordoun listed there names in order to marriage and their Banns being regularly proclaimed in the Church were married the Ninth of July " James CAIRD is of Pitnamoon, Fordoun at the baptism of his son James. Ann's parents are William HARRIS and Janet GUTHRIE and a another daughter married a CROW/CRAW. Their son David HARRIS married another CAIRD. William HARRIS is of Odmeston as a witness at the baptism of James CAIRD's daughter Janet, and 2 of his sons are also witnesses at another child of James and Ann - David HARRIS is of Meikle Carnbeg and his brother John HARRIS is of Odmeston. There seems to be much intermarrying between families but I have not yet proved a link in the two CAIRD marriages. I would dearly love to find a record of James CAIRD' place of birth but so far no clues in the baptisms. Please contact me if you see a connection. Kathleen Smart in Chippenham, Wiltshire.

    1. [SCT-KINCARDINE] Morisons in Perth
    2. Morison, Robert
    3. My Great Great Grandfather David Morison was born in Perth Scotland on the 10th February 1814. The Scottish Record Office do not have a record of his birth. There is an entry in a Family Bible in his son's hand mentioning this date and place. I know that David's Father's name was James, {I know this from David's Brother's death certificate. I also have a copy of a letter dated 3 March 1837, which tells of the death of his Brother James (aged 27 years) caught in the chuck of his lathe (at Claud Girdwood Engineers), in Glasgow}, but I do not know his Mother's name. There is the possibility that it was Janet, as his second daughter who died young was so named. James is buried at St Mungo's in Glasgow. The burial site cannot be found today. David was married to Janet Niven in Glasgow on 18 September 1835. Janet was born in Glasgow. Her Parent's were Charles Niven and Mary McCallum. David was very active as a Chartist, and a Trade Unionist. He was an Engineer (a metal worker in today's terms). He was arrested in the Plug Plot Riots in Manchester in August 1842, and charged with sedition, and causing a strike. In the ensuing court case he and 57 others, including Feargus O'Connor were convicted, but due to a technical error in the indictment they were not finally charged. I have been able to obtain a copy of a newspaper account of this. One of the stories that survives in memory in my Family has it (and I presume it occurred around this time) that the Police came looking for David and broke into the house and made a very thorough search, with out finding him. As they were leaving my Great Great Grandmother Janet called out after them, "You forgot to look in the teapot!" He was also involved in the Great Lock Out of 1852 where the Amalgamated Society of Engineers were on strike for many months. It was this event that caused he and his Family to leave Britain on 30 June 1852. To stay meant signing a document renouncing his Union, in order to get work, and he and 27 other Engineers chose not to. On board the ship "Frances Walker" they formed the first Australian Branch of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers. Today this Union is known as The Amalgamated Metal Workers Union, and is one of our oldest and most influential Unions in this Country. In the period leading up to this departure I am aware that he worked in the late 1830's, and early 1840's at Nasmyth and Gaskill's Bridgewater Foundry in Patricroft, Manchester, and later for the Great Western Railway at Swindon in Wiltshire. His children were James born 10.4.1838 at Patricroft, Robert born 20.5.1840 at Patricroft, David born 18.6.1844 born at Swindon, George born 11.5.1846, and Jane born 22.5.1848 born at Swindon. There are two other Daughters Mary and Janet but I have no information on them , other than that they must have died in infancy. In Sydney the Morison's lived around Balmain and Glebe and Pyrmont from the addresses that I have identified. At the time of his death David was working at an engineering shop called "Halliday and Morison" located at 16 Erskine Street Pyrmont. Charles Halliday was one of the 27 Engineers that came out with David. The four boys in this Family apparently served their engineering apprenticeships at Halliday and Morison and Mort's Dockyard in Balmain. Robert and James, however moved to Newcastle (New South Wales) in the 1870's, and began the engineering company Morison and Bearby, which ran until the 1960's. The other Brothers David and George seem to have had some association working with this company from time to time. In the 1880's David (junior) was, for a time, Secretary for the Eight Hour Movement in Sydney. Of this Family's deaths - David (senior) died 11/06/1865, Janet 21/08/1866, Jane 4/12/1866, David (junior) died 31/03/14, George 8/05/33. All of them are buried in the same grave at Rookwood Cemetery Sydney. James died 25/09/1901, and Robert died 5/03/1914 - both are buried at Sandgate Cemetery Newcastle, Australia. Well this is a basic sketch of the Family that I am descended from. I'm keen to find out more. I hope to hear from you.
