researching the whyte family from Fordoun John Whyte and Jane Robertson married in 1863. trying to find their parents and their birth dates and places. regards Peter Melbourne Aust.
Many thanks to both Ruth and Tanya for their help with my query about the Berry family. A relative of mine claims that he has checked the 1851 Census and this family was no longer at the farm they occupied in 1841. He then goes on to say that they had left Scotland altogether as there was no record of them anywhere. My next question is, therefore, can the 1851 Census be read in such a way , as to indicate someone’s absence from the entire country ? Marj in Australia
Is anyone by chance viewing this census? I wish to know all the SCOTT's who were their at this time. In particular I am looking for a Jean SCOTT aged 14yrs and Alexander SCOTT aged 15yrs approx. Both may have been listed as servants? My family were there at Cotts House in Hatton but Jean and Alex. were not with them? Which other SCOTT families were there at that time in Marykirk.? Hoping some kind soul can help. Thank you Regards Cris
Hello Listers, I am a new subscriber and am looking for information about my great-grandmother’s family. Her name was Isabella Berry and her parents were John Berry and Isabella Sim. They were farmers and at one time lived at Banchory Devenick where my great grandmother was christened in 1835 (according to the IGI). In the 1881 Census there is a mention of a John and Isabella Berry living on a farm at Kincardine O’Neil and they would be about the right ages. I don’t have access to the 1851 Census so would like some assistance in learning more about this family. Isabella came to Australia some time before 1862. Hoping someone can help. Marj Luhrs

Does anyone know of the SCOTT's of Benholme. Looking for a breakdown of the ancestors etc. I think Robert was the first c.1620, but who decsended from him? Does anyone have access to testaments/notes etc? Any little bit of info can help. Regards Cris NZ
Hello Bill, I think you will find that Rothesay is in fact, on the Isle of Bute, which is a lot closer to Glasgow than Kincardine. You would get a better response to the Lanark list than this one. Ruth Edwards
Can anyone help. I have just found my family in Marykirk 1851 thanks to a lovely lady from the NESFHS. They were living at Cott House Halton? Does anyone know of this place. Three members of this family were not present at the time of census. One the eldest daughter was in Montrose, but can anyone help with the other two. 1. Alexander SCOTT aged c.14yrs old, born Fordoun 2. Jean SCOTT aged c.13yrs old, born Fordoun. I suspect they may have been working as domestic servants of some type. Can anyone looking a Marykirk census or any census in surrounding areas keep there eyes open for these two people and who they were with etc. Thank you. Cris
Hi again, I've added a different search engine to the site and all seems fine. If you have any problems, please let me know. I'm also in the process of updating the Births section, so that will happen today/tomorrow. www.sctbdm.com Cheers Sue
After much drama, I have removed the search facility for the time being. I will trial it again in a few weeks and see how it goes. All seems to be working fine now, but please let me know if you have any problems. www.sctbdm.com Regards Sue

It had to happen sooner or later! I have changed web hosts, which happened today (or should I say didn't happen?) There is obviously a problem with my new setup, and seeing as though it's midnight here, the site won't be back on track for at least 10 hours. Gggrrrhhhhh. I will advise when all is OK. Sorry for the anti-climax Sue
Hi, I've added the ability to search for a name to the web site. It needs some fine tuning, so any comments would be appreciated (I've got broad shoulders so I can handle the critical ones too <g>). The URL is - www.sctbdm.com The search engine is at the bottom of the home page. Cheers Sue

----- Original Message ----- Subject: Donald death between 1841- 1850 Fordoun Hi Everyone, I am wondering if anyone knows of the death of a Peggy Donald sometime after 1841, when she was reportedly age 97 years on the census, she was not born in the area, and I believe she could be my ancestor. Does anyone know of newspapers, that would have been in that area about that time, that would be able to be still able to access files now . Or if anyone else also has the same Peggy Donald in their tree, I would like to hear from them. I would be most grateful for any help. Ruth Edwards Australia

Hi Ruth. I'm not sure of this but will check but the local library has newspapers on micro file (The Mearns Leader, local paper and still going, The Stonehaven Journel, this is probably the one that you'll get the info from) but I'm unsure of when the start. I'll check next time I'm up there. David.
