I have five questions: 1. Based on great info provided to me prviously in this mailing list, where may i subscribe to obtain census information and, birth and death certificates / notices? 2. How do i make my info available to living family - to allow them to be able to contact our family. 3. How do i find researchers who could assist me - for a fee to research my family. - I have a lot of information but would like to have more to enable me to visit Mull and Islay 4. Are there businsses that facilitate visits from people tracing there Scottich accestors - or an association - that would help plan a visit (again for a fee) 5. How can I benefit from others in my family tree who have researched a certain branch and it is confirmed correct (even if i have to pay for it) eg based on great info provided to me here in this group. Lachlan MacQuarrie Born: 1818 In: Isle of Ulva, ArgyllShire, Scotland Died: Dec 21 1900 (at age ~82) In: Salen, Isle of Mull, Argyllshire, Scotland (i have all his children on record) . And one of his daughters (my great grandmother) Jessie Campbell (born MacQuarrie) Born: Feb 5 1858 In: Ulva argyll Died: Nov 4 1944 (at age 86) In: Kimberley RSA ( I have all her children on record) Curious that there must be oter in my family who have researched the same paths / trees and would like to benefit from the effort. Please let me know. I thank you in advance Irfaan Ivan William Harris
Hi Irfaan, 1. Based on great info provided to me prviously in this mailing list, where may i subscribe to obtain census information and, birth and death certificates / notices? Copies of Census, Birth, Death and Marriage certificates may be obtain from Scotlandspeople http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk 2. How do i make my info available to living family - to allow them to be able to contact our family. I think this rather depends on whether your family have access to the internet and what computer programs you have. Ideally you could put your family details on the internet and everyone could access the details there. Otherwise you could maintain all your details in a family history program, print out the details from the program and either post or email the details to family. A good number of family tree programs will generate the files that are needed in order to allow others to view them on the internet. 3. How do i find researchers who could assist me - for a fee to research my family. - I have a lot of information but would like to have more to enable me to visit Mull and Islay Before engaging 'professional' researchers I would suggest that you seek answers via this mail list and the Islay list (see http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/SCT/SCT-ISLAY.html). Otherwise I would Google for a researcher. 4. Are there businsses that facilitate visits from people tracing there Scottich accestors - or an association - that would help plan a visit (again for a fee) I do not know of such an organisation. Such trips would not be difficult to plan on the internet. Once you have fixed on dates, contact local family history organisations who would no doubt be happy to assist. 5. How can I benefit from others in my family tree who have researched a certain branch and it is confirmed correct (even if i have to pay for it) eg based on great info provided to me here in this group. I think what you are looking for here is to combine records from several sources. If you and the other sources have their records recorded in a family history programs, you should be able to merge the records using GEDCOM format files. If the other sources do not have their records available in GEDCOM format, then I'm afraid it will be a manual collation exercise. Hope this helps. Please get back to me via the list if you need further help or the answers don't make sense. All the best.
