HUGH MCLEAN (1767-1848) who was married to FLORA (1759-1835) left Mull with their children CATHERINE (1791-1867) and ALLAN (1799-1876) and came to Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia Canada. Oral tradition is that one of the family went to Australia and others may have stayed in Mull. They were Presbyterians who spoke Gaelic. I am trying to find their birthplace in Mull, perhaps in LANGAMULL AND BUNESSAN. Does anyone have connections to this family? Thank You Elizabeth Fearon Halifax NS
Elizabeth There were at least two marriages Hugh McLean/Flora McLean, those being 10 Feb 1779 & 25 May 1792 both Kilninian parish Allan bap 20 Sep 1800 Kilninian I had assumed belonged to the second family, but as his sister Catherine was born 1791, they would have to belong to the first-married family (again I'm assuming your Allan born 1799 is this one) However, your birth year for Hugh 1767 would not work (too young) for the 1779 marriage. Is this year correct ? Flora born 1759 works The IGI also has a female bap (no name) 29 May 1795 Kilninian, who could belong to either of the two couples The OPR for Allan should reveal where he was baptised in Kilninian parish Michael www.mullfamilies.co.uk ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth Fearon" <efearon@eastlink.ca> To: <sct-isleofmull@rootsweb.com> Cc: "Elizabeth Fearon" <efearon@eastlink.ca> Sent: Thursday, August 22, 2013 4:42 PM Subject: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] McLeans in Cape Breton > HUGH MCLEAN (1767-1848) who was married to FLORA (1759-1835) left Mull > with their children CATHERINE (1791-1867) and ALLAN (1799-1876) and came > to Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia Canada.
