    3. As a general observation, having 3 wives in the mid to late 1800s was not as sensational as our imagination might allow us to think. My paternal grandfather married 3 times and he was actually widowed for over 30 yrs after his 3rd wife, my great grandmother died. First wife died after having produced nine or more children, second wife died within a year of marriage and third wife died from puerperal fever and was on the same death certificate as a son born after my father. Small wonder some of our closest ancestors appeared to be screwed up.
