Greetings to all, In the time I have been researching my BORRIE ancestors, I have accumulated quite a lot of information but still one very important piece of the picture is missing. Where is my ggg/grandfather buried? David Borrie was a native of Dunkeld and became a respected and long serving head gardener/superintendant at Torloisk estate on the Isle of Mull. He married in 1823 to Isobel (Elizabeth) McLeod at Kilninian and they had three children. Isobel died in 1831 and is buried in the Kilninian parish churchyard with a large headstone erected by David Borrie. David remained at Torloisk and later remarried to Catherine MacDonald, (marriage record not found). Several girls were born into this marriage in the 1840's and they themselves were employed in various roles at Torloisk House until well into the early 1900's. David Borrie died at the age of 80 yrs at Torloisk in 1876, and his death was registered at Dervaig. A neighbour, John Beaton, was the informant on the death certificate and he gave Catherine's surname as "McLean", but it is "MacDonald" on all of the childrens certificates. I would dearly like to know the location of the burial place of David Borrie and that of his second wife Catherine MacDonald. I visited Kilninian in 2006 and could not find the graves I am looking for there, or at Dervaig. It crossed my mind that perhaps there is a private graveyard somewhere on the Torloisk estate grounds, has anyone heard of this? Not knowing where your ancestor is buried is like reading a book with the last page missing. Can anyone help me solve this mystery please? Thankyou, Barry Howard, Victoria, Australia.
