Hi Dana, Regret that I cannot help you any further with your search. I have a question for you. You give Hectors dob as 12 Jul 1850. Was he born on a second marriage as I find it hard to believe that Euphemia would have a child at such an elderly age. Hi Dana Thanks for this posting to the list. Just a couple of ?'s because I'm snoopy. I have no connections to your family but the McLean's (sp) interest me. In Donald Whytes A Dictonary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada before Confederation vol 1 ISBN # 0-920036-09-0 mentions Angus McLean From Killinaig Kilfinchen Isle of Mull Argyl To Mariposa twp Victoria Co Ont 1833 Miller Wife Euphemia McKinnon qv with him and s Lachlan b 21 Jun 1837. Also a different entry the qv part for Euphemia MacKinnon 1793-16 Feb 1864 >From Kilfinchen parish Isle of Mull ARL To Mariposa twp Victoria Co Ont 1833 wife of Angus McLean qv If they are from Killinaig Kilfinchen our vital records were lost crossing Loch Scaridian so we are at a standstill and can only guess at who might be the parents . In the 1871 census for Collingwood twp Grey Co Ontario transcribed by Bruce & Grey Ont Genealogical society. Your John McLean aged 45 b Scotland Presby farmer wife Mary aged 38 (Do you know who her parents were) son Angus 14 Catherine 12 Alexander 11 Janet 8 Euphemia 6 Archibald 4 Flora 1 neighbours William Arbuthnot age 43 and his wife Margaret aged 33 with children (any thing you can add would be greatly appreciated). I presumue to be a brother of your Neil Arbuthnot. Your Neil Arbuthnot. aged 45 and his wife Flora McLean aged 48 (are in close proximity to your John McLean) they have children Jane aged 22 (who m's Neil Livingston ) Alexander 19, Catherine 17, James 15, Flora 13, Archibald 11, Malcolm 9 Euphemia 7, and Nancy a F aged 80 b Scotland I presume Neil's mother. In the Upper Canada Marriage index on-line at uppercanadamarriages@ontariogenealogy.com has ARBUTHNOT JANE .. possibly the following? I agree that it's unlikely that Euphemia b. circa 1793 was giving birth as late as 1848-1850. Is there another couple with the same name? Or could Hector's age be (way) off in the marriage record? Angus/Euphemia did have a Hector bapt. 7 Jul 1827 who died 17 Jul 1883 Mariposa Name: Hector Mclean Event Type: Marriage Event Date: 26 Feb 1883 Event Place: Cannington, Ontario, Ontario, Canada Age: 35 Birth Year (Estimated): 1848 Father's Name: Angus Mclean Mother's Name: Euphemia Mclean Spouse's Name: Fannie Hancock Spouse's Age: 23 Spouse's Birth Year (Estimated): 1860 Spouse's Father's Name: George Hancock Spouse's Mother's Name: Mary Ann Hancock Page: 008841 GS Film Number: 1869763 Digital Folder Number: 004529139 Image Number: 00326 On 11/20/2013 11:47 AM, Merle and Ida King wrote: > You mention a Hector McLean b 12 Jul 1850 in Markham Ont who dies at > Beaverton Ont Feb 10 1902 but I can't see who he belong to
Hello. Ida had given a different death date for Lachlan in an earlier email to the list (Sep 2013) "Little Britains Bible Christian Cemetery Marisposa twp., Victoria Co., Ont which I have a copy of... Lachlan MacLean b 1830-died 1905 & his wife Margaret Black b 1840 died 1898 Native of the Island of Mull" Just trying to verify which is accurate. Thanks!
