    3. Hello Listers I have previously posted on this list about my great great grandfather Hugh YOUNG, who leased the farm of Garmony on Mull from Murdoch Maclaine of Lochbuy, from 1836 to 1841.I eventually tracked him down to Canada, where he went in 1851, dying in Brant Township, Bruce County, Ontario in 1883. During my researches, I came across a book called "The History of the County of Bruce and of the minor municipalities therein, Province of Ontario, Canada" by Norman Robertson. It can be accessed on the www.ourroots.ca website. There is a reference on pages 59 and 60 to the building of a road. Apparently, in November 1851, Simon Orchard undertook: "on payment of £12/ 10s, to open up "a sleigh track" from the vicinity of Paisley as far as Lachlan ("Lochbuie") McLean's tavern, standing where is now the village of Port Elgin; from there the beach afforded a road to Southampton." Does anyone know anything about this Lachlan McLean, who presumably was from Mull? Stewart Young
