Anyway, through luck and a bit of work I traced him to Paisley and was delighted to find he was actually from Mull. Another large family of McKinnons from Shiaba, Donald and Mary McCormack, came to Bruce County from Shiaba. I would think there may be a connection there somewhere, but that's another quest. After I posted, I did find Lachlan on the 1861 census on Wardrop St in Paisley with wife Janet and children Colin and Jane. If you are interested in what I have on Donald let me know.
