Greetings from Western Australia fellow listers, First, my apologies for the delay in getting back to the list. Work pressures, etc. Second, thanks to all those who replied to my original question including Ida, John and Joanne among others. Finally, please find below more details on my Neil Fletcher as requested: Neil FLETCHER born about 1800 (not in Banffshire -1841 Census), died between 1841-1844. 1832 - sailor in Macduff. 1835 - seaman in Macduff. 1837 - Merchant in Macduff. 1838 - Merchant in Macduff. 1840 grocer in Macduff. 1841 census, Gamrie, Banffshire, age 40, merchant and Sp. Dealer, living at Duff St, Gamrie. Neil Married Janet BLACK in 1832 in Macduff, Gamrie, Banffshire. Their children were: 1 M John Rainey FLETCHER Born: 10 Oct 1832 - Macduff, Gamrie, Banff 2 George FLETCHER Born: 23 Aug 1835 - Macduff, Gamrie, Banff, Christened: 10 Oct 1835 - Macduff, Gamrie, Banff, 3 Alexander FLETCHER Born: 10 Nov 1837 - Macduff, Gamrie, Banff, Christened: 8 Dec 1837 - Macduff, Gamrie, Banff, Died: 13 Nov 1914 - C. Hill, Vic, Aus Spouse: Catherine Reid McGEE (1850-1915) Marr. Date: 3 Sep 1870 - Nelson, New Zealand 4 Mary FLETCHER Born: 2 Dec 1838 - Macduff, Gamrie, Banff, Christened: 21 Dec 1838 - Macduff, Gamrie, Banff, 5 Amelia FLETCHER Born: 24 Jul 1840 - Macduff, Gamrie, Banff, Christened: 25 Aug 1840 - Macduff, Gamrie, Banff, Janet BLACK married for the second time in Macduff in 1844 to Donald McDonald who is not from Banffshire. I am not sure when Neil died as the death records and mort cloth records are mostly non existant. I am not sure what happened to 4 of Neil and Janet's children: John Rainey, George, Mary and Amelia. I assume they died before 1851. I found Janet and her son, Alexander, on the 1851 Census in Aberdeen. Her husband was not at home. In 1861 all 3 were home in Aberdeen, Donald and Janet McDonald and Alexander Fletcher. Alexander Fletcher arrived in New Zealand in Oct 1861 with his mother and step father. His mother died in 1868 and I was privileged to see the tombstone Alexander erected for her in Nelson, New Zealand. Alexander married in Nelson in 1870 and moved to Melbourne, Victoria. I hope this long saga strikes a chord with someone out there and I look forward to any responses. Thanks again to everyone. Nigel Boundy Great Grandson of Alexander Fletcher. --- Merle & Ida King <m_iking@telusplanet.net> wrote: > Hi Nigel > > I'm wondering if you'd mind sharing a few more > details for this Neil > Fletcher.
