My McKinnon family were located in Kilfinichen and Kilvickeon parish at Bailememeanach, but I can't locate the place on Ian's location index. Since the previous place on the K&K census (1841) was Inchkenneth which is not mainland Mull it occurs to me that this might also be on an Island. Can anyone help? I am hoping this might give me a clue to where Catherine's parents in law (Alexander McKinnon and Ann McLean) were based in very early 1800s. Jean Whimp.
Jean, I think the place you are looking for may be Balmeanach which is at Gribun (grid ref NM448 331) - it's at the end of a track which heads South just before the main coastal road turns inland towards Kinloch. It's fairly close to Inchkenneth. But it's quite a common name meaning "middle township" so there may be others. Hope this helps.
