Thanks Jacqueline. I take it you do not have any info on the family of the other Catherine McNeil born in Caillioch in 1791 to parents Malcolm McNeil and Janet Campbell? Regarding the Beatons, I believe the existence of two Archibalds only 5 years apart in age continues to cause confusion. There is no proof that the Archibald who married Catherine McNeil is the one who was baptised on Gometra in 1785. Likewise there is no proof that he is the Archibald that died in Tobermory in 1856. Furthermore there is no proof that the children, Jessie and Catherine, in the 1841 census in Tobermory belong to the same parents who married in 1814 and had John (1815) and Archibald (1817). All of this has to be speculation and is not helped by being stated as fact on the Mull website. John Beaton
Hi John & Jacqueline I'll probably confuse the issue more.. In the 1841 census John you mention Jessie Beaton. I wonder if she might be the d/o John Beaton/Bethune & Marion Henderson as Janet appears to be missing from the census below. Therefore a possbible grand daughter of the Archibald & Catherine ????(McNeil)..you mention. at Kirk St. TBR The Catherine in aged 7 in 1841 census might also be a d/o John and Marion as well. I haven't found any other information for the family. Argyll Terrace Beaton/Bethune John 35 Mason Y M 1851 Argyll Terrace S. Side TBR Argyll Terrace Beaton Sally/Marion 40 Y F Henderson Argyll Terrace Beaton Flora 11 Y F n/e not in census but child of Janet Sep 22 1833 Argyll Terrace Beaton James 5 Y M Feb 16 1836 Argyll Terrace Beaton Angus 3 Y M n/e Argyll Terrace Beaton Archd 6mo. Y M n/e Maybe someone with the MI for TBR or OPR's could check it out as Marion Henderson dies Feb 5 1875 at Tomavulin TBR. John must die after this as he was present at the time of her death. He's not found in the 1881 census either. Ida John Beaton wrote: >Thanks Jacqueline.
