Hello Joanne, Excerpt of letter from Jessie Goldie (nee Ronaldson) to her brother William Ronaldson, July 11 1916: "In these days we had a second cousin killed last week at the front in France. He was coming out for a Dr. and he had only one season to put in a college when he was called to the front in may and a clever one he was. He was a lieutenant in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and he also has a brother in the same regiment and is expecting to be called away soon. He was at home for a few days..... they call this one Donald and their older brother one called Charles, he is a minister in Shettleston, he is an assistant there waiting for a church of his own, they are all young fellows I don't think they were born when you left (1885). I think their mother and father were not married. Their father is Duncan McKinnon he was a boot and shoemake in Tobermory.." The second cousin killed may have been Lachlan McKinnon who was killed in WW1 according to Tobermory war monument also there is also an Allister McKinnon listed too. I think Shetteston is in Glasgow and found a Charles McKinnon there in 1891 born in Tobermory although he was too old to be the one mentioned here. 1901 Tobermory District No : 3 Page No : 4 House No : 19 Locality : 1 Albert Street 19016225 McKinnon Duncan 52 Head Shoemaker Argyll Glengorm Mull McKinnon Jessie 43 Wife Shoemaker's wife Argyll Glengorm Mull McKinnon Charles 14 Son Scholar Argyll Tobermory McKinnon John 12 Son Scholar Argyll Tobermory McKinnon Lachlan 10 Son Scholar Argyll Tobermory McKinnon Chirsty 6 Dau Argyll Tobermory McKinnon Donald 4 Son Argyll Tobermory McKinnon Flora 54 Sister Formerly Servant Domestic Argyll Glengorm Mull Hope I am allowed to copy and paste little tables from your census pages, I apologise if not, let me know. I'm not sure exactly where these people fit in yet and am hoping someone can save me some brain pain. I have a clue which suggests Duncan McKinnon aged 52 is the son of Christina Mccoll and Charles McKinnon. Perhaps the Charles McKinnon mentioned before in the 1891 census? I'll keep puzzling if no-one can help Thanks, Joanne Re: your posting------ > John McKinnon was another of Lachlan Fletcher and Isabel McColl's > grandchildren through their second daughter. Marion /Sally /Sarah Fletcher > christened 19 May 1814. Marion / Sally/Sarah married Duncan MacKinnon, > they lived in Breast, Tobermory....... I have a lateral connection to this family. My Ggrandmother's brother, JOHN MCDOUGALL was married to ISABELLA MCKINNON, daughter of Duncan & Marion McKinnon. Jane Vassileiou has a connection as well through Isabella's younger brother, Donald McKinnon. Cheers, Joan.
