Hi Tricia There are many stories about William on the Internet,some true,some not. The family did spend some time in the Orkneys,one report says 3 years,but it may have been longer. Even William didn't get the facts right,he said his parents were born in Ireland,which is wrong. I proved thru BDM registration and Census that his father was born in Edinburgh and his mother in Maybole Ayr. Never the less he was a real character and he is coming back in favour. I believe that Dundee is going to stage a recently found play of his soon.
