    1. [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] McInnes family - Boatman?
    2. Joy & John
    3. Hello everyone, I wonder if anyone can help me. I have found my family in the 1841 Census for Iona. They are listed as living at Kintra in house number 28. The details are: Dugald MacInnes, age 30, Boatman, born in Parish Mary, age 30, born in Parish Christina, age 9, born in Parish Mary, age 6, born in parish Sandy [Alexander], age 2, born in Parish Duncan, age 7 months, born in Parish I am wondering what a Boatman would actually do. Would he be a fisherman, ferry man or something else? Would it be more likely that he owned the boat or worked for the owner of the boat? This family came out to Australia aboard the Maitland leaving Gravesend on the 14 September, 1848. They arrived in Australia at 6pm on the 7 January, 1849. Mary, aged 6, was my GGGrandmother. If anyone can give me any more details about this family or the area where they lived I would be most grateful. Cheers from Joy in Australia.

    3. I believe the boatman would be responsible for transporting people across to Iona. The sandy bay near Kintra would be ideal for this.
