According to land grant records of Province of Nova Scotia, Duncan, Hugh and Dugald MColl, aged 30, 27 and 24 respectively , stated that they had emigrated five weeks earlier - the date of the petition for land is 1826. They received the grants, each for 200 acres - quite a change in circumstances for young men who would never have been able to own their own plot of ground, much less 200 acres. They received the land on the road between St. George;s Channel (now West Bay) and River Inhabitants, now Kingsville, Cape Breton Island They do not state that they are brothers, but it is generally believed that they were.
