    3. Every so often I get a burst of energy and hope that it will result in my finding more of my McMillan relatives in Mull. Regulars will have seen my posting before. I was doing a search through the archives of the Mull site and came across a couple of messages from Jean Whimp and Joan Northcote. The subject line is Part of letter from Jo re McDonalds (April 2006). Joan's message is making reference to a trip that Jo Currie took with Jean Whimp around South Australia (28 Feb 2002). We have death certificates from Victoria Australia for both Archibald McMillan and his wife Flora (nee McIntyre) that state their mother's names as being Christina McCormick! Ian Phillips has said that Archibald's parents are in fact John McMillan and Christina McDonald. Archibald and Flora's children are: Angus, Sarah, Ann, Mary, John, Christy, Alexander. It seems that Angus went to Australia before the rest of the family who went in 1853 on the New Zealander. Sarah (sometimes Marion) married Neil MacLean and did not travel to Australia. I have not been able to determine what happened to Mary. These children are all listed on their parents' death certificates registered in Victoria Australia. Archibald and Flora were living in Oskamull before they left for Portland Victoria Australia in 1853. I have read the messages in the archives and note the connection between the McDonalds and the McMillans in Mull/Iona. John, Christy and Alexander are all in the Mull transcribed census records as having been born in Kiln & Kiln. John cited Ulva as the place of his birth in his wedding certificate in Australia in 1864 - when he married Margaret McDonald from Skye, daughter of John McDonald and Flora Lamont - who also travelled to Portland on the New Zealander. I am not trying to connect these McDonalds with the McDonalds of Mull/ Iona. I am interested in Jo Currie's comment that John McMillan was the nephew of a McDonald - which may be an indicator that perhaps Archibald's mother was Christina McDonald after all. When I was working in PNG, some people who had McMillan connections from Mt Gambier contacted me. As I had not obvious link with them, I said that there was none! I met them at a photogrpahic exhibition in Digby Victoria in about 2004 and was surprised to see such a strong resemblance to our McMillan family in their photographs. I have lost their contact details and wonder if anyone might have any contact details for McMillan family in Mt Gambier South Australia. Those who attended MUGG will recall that when the McMillan photo was taken - I was the only person in it! So hopefully at some time, I can make a connection to someone researching the same family whether they have McMillan/McCormick/McDonald/McIntyre/Maclean connections. Any assistance would be gratefully received. Any clues, ideas, connections, etc - all welcomed!
