Ian I understand your concerns regarding XP, but it's a perfectly good OS. The biggest security culprit with Windows, is the IE browser. XP, as with other Microsoft systems, is bloated with rubbish that's not needed, creating potential problems with users. Personally, I use a stripped version of XP, thanks to a clever prog called XP-lite (worth every penny). I no longer have IE installed, just Firefox which is constantly updated by Mozilla (and IE is what hackers go for). So long as users use a decent firewall like Zone Alarm, then the chances of infection are minimal. Microsoft are crying in their coffers because they got XP right, and I'll be using it for years to come. However, my OS setup is not for everyone. I would remind those accessing the website that Microsoft's support for Windows XP finishes on the 8th April. After this date users accessing the internet with XP do so very much at their own risk. This link (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/en-gb/xp/end-of-xp-support.aspx) gives information about the withdrawal. Please believe me when I say that there is a substantial risk of virus and malware attacks on computers still using XP after the 8th April. Such attacks could render a computer virtually unusable. Equally beware of spam messages that say that your computer has been scrambled, pay us £x and we will fix it. The chances are they are a scam but there is no way of being certain. So all I can say is, better to be safe than sorry, DO NOT connect an XP computer to the net after the 8th of April. The only safe option is to purchase a new computer running either Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. Michael, Don't say that you have not been warned. You only have to read the technical paper available on the internet. I really do hope that you don't get attacked. I can see nothing in the software that you using that would give me confidence in the continued use of XP. I would state that I'm not in the employ of Microsoft but do have 40 years experience in the computer industry and could certainly not recommend others taking the route that you have but acknowledge your right to proceed in any direction that you wish. I wonder if you have taken any professional advice on this matter.
