Suggest he may well have gone on to Melbourne (Victoria) or Sydney (NSW). Sometimes they got off the ship in Adelaide but travelled on to Victoria quite soon afterwards because of the gold. However there are 9 marriages for a James McDougall in South Australia (1842-1916) so perhaps he married someone else first....or he married before 1842. My GT Uncle got off the ship in SAust, but immediately travelled overland to Victoria ...another relative even walked to Bendigo, made his money with gold and came back to settle and build a church at cockatoo Valley SA and grow a family in South Australia. I'll look for children now >From SA births 1842-1906 Jane Mary Ann MCDOUGALL born to James McDougall and Jane PARR Birth place/ residence Wiltshire Surrey Birth registered Adelaide South Australia, Ref:Book 2 no 65 I think they may have misunderstood that it was asking for the mothers place of birth rather than the child!!! This is the only birth to this family in SA , hope this helps.
