Hi Ida and Linda, Can't really help with John McCormick's marriage to Margaret McGilvra. A couple of points though. Birth cert for John, son of John McCormick and Margaret Black, shows his birthplace as what looks like "Culbhury", Iona. This could perhaps be "Culbuirg", but it is definately Iona. The James Stewart on the 1871 census for William Vass. I have tried hard to find any connection between Vass and Stewart, going through the Vass family from Ross-shire as well, and I have come to the conclusion that the census is wrong and that it should read "boarder" and not brother. Also, on the 1881 census for John and Christina, I note that Dugald and Janet from John's marriage to Margaret McDonald are living with them, and their marriage cert shows John living at Tormore and Christina at Deargphort, where the rest of the Vass family were at the time.
