There are several people in the history of the Islands with the name Vere. The Hon. George Vere Hobart, Lt. Governor of Canada (d.1802) married Janet (Jessie) Maclean Maclean, daughter of Alexander Maclean of Coll (1753-1835) and Catherine Cameron (1756-1802). They had a daughter who was Lady Vere Hobart (1803-1835) who married Capt Donald Cameron of Lochiel. Sir Harry Aubrey de Vere Maclean, KCMG (b.1848) was the eldest son of Dr. Andrew Maclean (1812-1908) and Clara Harrison (see Jo Currie, 'Island' p.428). Sir Harry had a son Andrew de Vere Maclean (b.1882) who like his father went into the army. Donald McIlhagga.
