    1. [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] Genealogical Expedition 2008

    3. Hi all, My parents and I are currently in the planning stages of arranging a trip to Scotland for 3 weeks, September 6 - 28, 2008. This is my 4th trip back to Argyll, but the first one with both my parents since our 1967 immigration. We had been living at Kilmory Ross, Tayvallich up until that time. Aside from visiting all the relatives, this journey has a mainly genealogical purpose, in that I want my parents to show me all the places where my ancestors lived and are buried etc., because I would never find these on my own. We plan to drive directly to Mull the day our plane lands and spend 3 -4 days exploring there. Another 1 - 2 days on Islay and Jura. The bulk of the trip in Mid Argyll and the last day or 2 in the Lowlands. We would like to book some B & Bs and possibly a caravan ahead of time. We have explored the internet and looked at guide books already. The average price for B & Bs seems to be about 25 pounds a night, for the ones advertised. We are betting that this is only the tip of the iceberg and that many small, lower priced operators exist that don't choose to pay for ads. So my question is to locals in this area - can you tell me of any reasonable B & Bs that you know of? Surnames that we are connected to, either directly or by marriage: FLETCHER MCPHAIL STEWART MCKINNON PATERSON MCARTHUR MCLEAN MCEACHERN/MCKECHNIE MCGREGOR MCMILLAN JOHNSTON GALBRAITH CAMPBELL MCKELLAR KERR MACVICAR MITCHELL CRAWFORD MCNICOL MCNAB MCDOUGALL MCLARTY MUNRO LEITCH More details to come later. Maybe we'll even be meeting some of you! Thank you very much. Mary Fletcher Harris Canada

    3. Kia ora Mary Greetings from New Zealand. Would you like to contact me outside of the group as it concerns Jura and Knapdale in particular, not Mull (although I do have connections with Mull too.) I am a Fletcher descendant with links to those places, so might have some connection with you????
