Roll call - McMillan, McIntyre, McDonald and McCormick - confused dates, ages and parents and brick-walls! Archibald and Flora McMillan (nee McIntyre) came to Portland Victoria Australia on the 'New Zealander' in 1853. They came with their adult children - Ann, Christy, John and Alexander. Their son Angus had emigrated to Australia before them. On the death certificates of both parents - two additional children are listed - Marion (Sarah) and Mary. Marion married Neil McLean and lived in Ballygowan. I have no more evidence of Mary. I also have no more information relating to Alexander after he came to Australia. Some people have suggested that they also had a daughter named Flory, but there is no record of her on Archibald's death certificate On Archibald's death certificate (died on 29 Dec 1871) it states that his parents were Archibald McMillan and Christina McCormack. The informant was the father of his son John's wife, Margaret. Margaret and her family came from Skye. It looks as if his parents are more likely to have been John McMillan and Christian McDonald. Christened 9 April 1786, Eddey, Kilninian and Kilmore, Argyll, Scotland (Mull). (Source: IGI records Batch number 7413013, Source call number 0935415, Sheet 91) On Flora's death certificate (died 27 September 1870) it states that her parents were Angus McIntyre and Christina McCormack. The informant was her son Angus. I have no evidence of her birth date or place or birth. The dates of Archibald and Flora's birth are also not clear to me, with them being cited as being 60 on the HIES records in 1853 and Archibald being cited as 95 years on his death certificate and Flora being cited as being 85. Alexander was born in 1835 and so I have considered that when considering when Flora might have been born. When Ann died in 1890, it is cited that she was 56 which suggests that she was born in 1834 not 1824 which is what I have found in Mull (1824). I would be very pleased to hear of any connections or ideas. Libby ------------------------------------- Elizabeth K McMillan (in Solomon Islands until June 2013) - [email protected]
