Has been some great activity on the list lately. Haven’t seen much input from anyone in the USA, but thought I’d submit the following in hopes that someone can point me in directions to obtain more information. Looking for information on an Alexander McLean, born about 1670 on the Isle of Mull. I do not have the name of his wife, but have some information on his children. According to what I can piece together, Alexander left Scotland about 1714/1715 “on account of political troubles involving a partial dispersion of the McLean’s (MacLean’s)”, and went to Ireland. I believe that most, if not all, of Alexander’s children were born on the Isle of Mull. The children’s names that I have are: Archibald; William; Daniel; Charles; John; Joseph; Robert; Thomas; and Alexander. Haven’t traced all the children yet, but what little I do have is: Archibald, and his brother William, emigrated to the United States from Ireland about 1732/1733 and settled in Pennsylvania. By this time, the spelling of the surname was “McClean” in almost all cases. Archibald was born 1699 on the Isle of Mull, died 1 December 1733 in Horsham Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Family was very prominent in our early American history and I have traced most of his family. He did not marry until he was in Pennsylvania. William was born 1702 on the Isle of Mull, died 13 June 1785 in York County, Pennsylvania. William married in Donegal, Ireland, and several of his children were born in Londonderry, Ireland. They all eventually emigrated to the United States where they too played an important part in our early history, and I have traced most of his family. Hoping to make that connection back to the Isle of Mull. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks, Linda Bennion (North Carolina)
