Janet, What a fascinating topic. Perhaps people are shorter in England/Scotland but my father, born 1890, and , my grandfather. Cameron, born 1847. were both well over six feet two in height. My gt grandfather Cameron, born 1808, was six feet five inches in height. My father's first cousin was six feet six inches. .My grandfather MacLean [born 1863]a mere six feet. My brother and I were [are] relatively short compared to our paternal line, so, perhaps, heredity includes many ancestors, among whom of my own, the McDonells were notoriously tall, but my brother and I didn't fall ilnto the norm height for our family, so, perhaps, we had a 'short' ancestor lurking somewhere in the background. It is impossible to generalise.about height. Height 'runs' in families and skips generations.. Until I was eleven I was very tall, then quit growing. My mother was horrified that I would be tall like my female cousins.....oh laa.. Oh dear, regardless of Mull ancestors, I am a 'flatfoot'. And, oh, if one attends the local 'highland' games which were held this week height is everywhere..... Margaret Cameron Long Sault Ontario
The answer to height I believe to be in nutritional diet and its effect, I know not, on genetics. It is true we take the worst, negative aspects from both parents.
