Can anyone help with my McNivens please. I am looking for any information about Duncan McNiven born about 1780 and married to Marion (or Sally) McLean He was an army sergeant and was stationed in Tuam, Galway about 1806. The only children I have found are Ann born 1803 Morvern, Stewart or William born about 1806 in Tuam, Galway, then Alexander born 1815 and John born 2 January 1818 both in Morvern. Does anyone know where I can obtain army records for 1800s. Stewart's family lived in Tobermory. Marilyn

Also found William McNiven's death on 30th January 1885 aged 77; father Duncan, army sergeant, and mother Marion McLean. he was a tailor in South High Street, Tobermory, and he died of paralysis of the throat. Informant was his son, Duncan McNiven. He is described as widower of Harriet McNiven. Jill
