Hello Jillian Archibald was my great grandfather. He married Isabella McCormick as his second wife and she died in childbirth in 1885, giving birth to her only child, my grandmother, Catherine Isabella McKechnie. Catherine was brought up by her maternal grandparents, Cormick and Catherine McCormick who also came from Mull and who also lived in Water Street. I think James was Malcolm and Ann's grandson. In fact I think their daughter Catherine gave birth to him long before she married Mr Simpson. I think Ann was probably Archibald's daughter from his first marriage because the age fits. I have a feeling Catherine outlived Mr Simpson and married again. Yes, Archibald married three times. His first wife died and they had two daughters, Marion and Ann. I keep in contact with Ann's granddaughter, another Ann, and she thinks the two sisters were probably farmed out among relatives after their mother, Marion's death. Catherine McInnes, Archibald's third wife was a widow when he married her. Ann thinks they probably separated as they never appear together on a census and she died several years after him. Hope this helps.
