My grand mother's sister emigrated to America in the early 1930s and told us about the frustration she had in getting shoes to fit. She became a Governess to one of the families on Grosse Point, Michigan. On one occasion with more than a dozen shoes on the floor surrounding her and the sales person, she was told "Well madam, you do have difficult feet to fit. My Gt Aunt told the lady assistant "I'll have you know whether I have a difficult foot to fit, it is my foot and its a British foot" We do all have high insteps in our family. Janet ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> : Hi Jim, : Seems like our MacFarlane - MacCallum lines might be connected in more ways than one. I also have feet with high arches. I used to call them my battle clubs; short, wide and high arches. Made getting shoes a royal pain in the butt. My Dad had long narrow feet so not likely to come from his side. My Pictou Island lines also had some fore-telling abilities as mentioned in your earlier post. Anyone who would like to read about the people and history of Pictou Island( quite a few who have Mull ties) should look up the book" PICTOU ISLAND, NOVA SCOTIA: ITS HISTORY and PEOPLE" by KENNETH MACCALLUM.Total of 595 pages. : PS, first version goofed up and didn't go through.
