    3. Dear Michael, I am presently on holiday and unable to access the Forum as often. So now I am working through 254 e-mails!!! And enjoying the conversation. I'll be happy to reply in the light vein you suggest, since I don't have my research notes with me. What are holidays for if not to be frivolous? My grandfather, John James Wood, was born in 1859. He was a Toronto policeman, badge #261, who, given the concerns over the G8 events of a year ago, wore his badge number in 6"-high white numbers just above the cuff on his right sleeve. He also wore a Bobby helmet, which I understand only disappeared as part of the uniform during World War II. He was the son of a second marriage. Does that disqualify him? By the way, if someone hits the same year or 1860 I'll concede - it appears he fibbed to get into the force to be under the age of 30 as the official police records say he was born in 1861. (Since vital stats registration didn't begin in Canada until 1869 I guess verification wasn't possible). He served honourably from 1891 to 1921. All the best.
